Boston Red Sox complete three roster moves

BOSTON, MA – The Boston Red Sox announced the following roster moves following today’s first game against the Toronto Blue Jays:

  •  Reinstated right-handed pitcher Justin Slaten from the 15-Day Injured List.
  •  Optioned right-handed pitcher Josh Winckowski to Triple-A Worcester.
  •  Appointed left-handed pitcher Bailey Horn as the club’s 27th man for Game Two of today’s doubleheader against the Toronto Blue Jays at Fenway Park.

Slaten, 26, was placed on the Injured List on July 12, retroactive to July 9, with right elbow inflammation. The right-hander has pitched in 31 games for Boston this season, his Major League debut, posting a 3.38 ERA (16 ER/42.2 IP) with 45 strikeouts and a .220 opponent batting average. He made one rehab appearance, facing three batters for Double-A Portland on Friday against Somerset and allowing one run, one hit, and one walk with one strikeout.

Winckowski, 26, has recorded a 4.37 ERA (29 ER/59.2 IP) in 30 games (six starts) for Boston this season. The right-hander has also posted a 2.87 ERA (10 ER/31.1 IP) with 29 strikeouts in seven games (six starts) for Worcester.

Horn, 26, has recorded a 6.48 ERA (12 ER/16.2 IP) in 14 games with Boston this season, his Major League debut. Acquired from the Chicago White Sox on April 30, the Texas native also owns a 2.38 ERA (6 ER/22.2 IP) with 24 strikeouts and a .175 opponent batting average (14-for-80) in 16 games (one start) with Worcester.
