Boston, MA – The Boston Red Sox have announced several roster changes, including the promotion of top prospect Roman Anthony, an injury designation for Wilyer Abreu, and the DFA of Ryan Noda.

Roman Anthony Joins the Red Sox Roster

Anthony, 21, is ranked as MLB’s No. 1 overall prospect by Baseball America and MLB.com. The left-handed hitter has been impressive in Triple-A Worcester, batting .288 (61-for-212) with a .914 OPS in 58 games. He has made 29 starts in left field, 14 as a designated hitter, 11 in center field, and four in right field.

Originally selected by Boston in the second round of the 2022 MLB Draft, the Florida native has compiled a .285 batting average (323-for-1,235) with 223 runs, 72 doubles, 10 triples, 42 home runs, and 170 RBI across 303 career minor league games.

Wilyer Abreu Heads to Injured List

Abreu, 25, has been a key contributor for Boston this season, hitting .245 (51-for-208) with 13 home runs and 32 RBI in 64 games. The left-handed hitter has made 53 starts in right field.

Originally signed as an international free agent by the Houston Astros in 2017, the Venezuela native has posted a .258 batting average (176-for-683) with 47 doubles, two triples, 30 home runs, and 104 RBI in 224 career MLB games with the Red Sox (2023-25).

Ryan Noda Designated for Assignment

Noda, 29, was acquired from the Los Angeles Angels on May 22 in exchange for cash considerations. In 13 games for Worcester, the left-handed hitter batted .378 (14-for-37) with three doubles, three home runs, and 13 RBI, making five starts at first base, five in right field, and three as a designated hitter.

Originally drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 15th round of the 2017 MLB Draft, the Illinois native has hit .212 (106-for-501) in 164 career MLB games with the Oakland Athletics (2023-24).
