Boston Red Sox and infielder/outfielder Kristian Campbell agree on eight-year contract extension through 2032 season

Boston, MA – The Boston Red Sox have secured infielder/outfielder Kristian Campbell with an eight-year contract extension, covering the 2025-2032 seasons and including club options for 2033 and 2034. The agreement underscores the team’s commitment to their rising star.

At just 22 years old, Campbell made history on March 27 by becoming the Red Sox’s youngest Opening Day starter at second base since Reggie Smith in 1967. In his debut series against the Texas Rangers, Campbell impressed by hitting .375 (6-for-16) with four runs, two doubles, one home run, two RBIs, and four walks across five games. He showcased versatility by starting at second base four times and in left field once.

Drafted in the fourth round of the 2023 First Year Player Draft from Georgia Tech, Campbell quickly rose through the ranks and is now recognized as one of baseball’s brightest young talents. Ranked as the No. 4 overall prospect by Baseball America and No. 6 by MLB.com, Campbell delivered a stellar performance in his first full minor league season in 2024.

Across High-A Greenville, Double-A Portland, and Triple-A Worcester, the Tennessee native posted a .330 batting average (142-for-430) with 32 doubles, three triples, 20 home runs, 94 runs scored, and 77 RBIs in 115 games.

Campbell’s breakout 2024 season earned him multiple accolades, including Minor League Baseball’s Hitting Prospect of the Year and Breakout Player of the Year, Red Sox Minor League Offensive Player of the Year, Baseball America’s Minor League Player of the Year, and the Double-A Eastern League Most Valuable Player title. With such a promising start to his career, Campbell’s long-term deal cements his place as a cornerstone for the Red Sox’s future success.
