Blue Jays acquire Swanson and Macko

The Toronto Blue Jays have acquired RHP Erik Swanson and LHP Adam Macko from the Seattle Mariners in exchange for OF Teoscar Hernández.

Swanson, 29, pitched in 57 games for the Mariners last season, going 3-2 while setting career marks with a 1.68 ERA and a 0.91 WHIP. The 6-3, 222 lb. reliever was selected by the Texas Rangers in the eighth round of the 2014 First-Year Player Draft and was traded twice before debuting with Seattle in 2019. The right-hander from Fargo, ND, has kept a career 4.13 ERA while picking up four wins and six saves across four Major League campaigns.

Macko, 21, made eight starts for Advanced-A Everett in 2022, posting a 3.99 ERA while racking up 60 strikeouts across 38.1 innings. The native of Bratislava, Slovakia, attended Vauxhall High School in Alberta before he was drafted in the seventh round by the Mariners in 2019. Over the course of three Minor League seasons, the 6-0, 170 lb. lefty has gone 2-7 with a 3.98 ERA and a 14.02 SO/9.

Hernández, 30, batted .267 while recording 35 doubles, one triple, 25 home runs, and 77 RBI this past season. The 6-2, 215 lb. outfielder joined the Blue Jays in a trade from the Astros in 2017. He then claimed two Silver Slugger Awards and made the 2021 All-Star team while with the club. The native of Cotui, Dominican Republic, has played in 651 games during his Major League career, hitting .262 with 133 home runs and 380 RBI.
