Blue Jays acquire Griffin

The Toronto Blue Jays have acquired LHP Foster Griffin from the Kansas City Royals in exchange for RHP Jonatan Bernal.

Griffin, 26, made five appearances with the Royals this season, keeping a 12.46 ERA (6 ER/4.1 IP). The 6-3, 225 lb. lefty also pitched in 20 games for Triple-A Omaha, going 4-0 with a 1.93 ERA (6 ER/28.0 IP) and 32 strikeouts while holding opponents to a .188 batting average. The Orlando native was selected 28th overall by Kansas City in the 2014 First-Year Player Draft and made his debut with the club in 2020.

Bernal, 20, appeared in 14 games (seven starts) for Single-A Dunedin this season, holding a 1-5 record to go along with a 5.47 ERA (32 ER/52.2 IP). The Mazatlan, Mexico, native was signed by the Blue Jays as an international free agent on April 7, 2019, and owns a 4.56 ERA across three Minor League seasons.

Additionally, the Toronto Blue Jays have made the following roster moves:

  • RHP Jeremy Beasley has been recalled from Triple-A Buffalo and will be active for today’s game 
  • RHP Sergio Romo has been designated for assignment
  • LHP Foster Griffin has be optioned to Triple-A Buffalo
