Cody Poteet – Career Highlights
Poteet (pronounced poh-TEET), 30, joined the Cubs for the 2025 Spring Training after being acquired from the New York Yankees in December 2024 in a trade that involved outfielder Cody Bellinger and cash considerations. Poteet had a strong showing with the Yankees last season, going 3-0 with a 2.22 ERA (6 earned runs over 24.1 innings) in five games, including four starts. During this span, he allowed 18 hits (2 home runs), seven total runs, hit one batter, issued eight walks, and struck out 16.

At the Minor League level in 2024, Poteet posted a 3-0 record with a 3.40 ERA (20 earned runs in 53.0 innings) across 13 starts with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and Double-A Somerset. Despite his performance, he was not included on the Yankees’ Postseason roster for the ALDS, ALCS, or World Series.

Originally drafted by the Miami Marlins in the fourth round of the 2015 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of UCLA, Poteet’s career has included stints in the Kansas City Royals organization (2022) and his MLB debut with the Marlins on May 12, 2021, against Arizona. During his debut, he earned the win with 5.0 innings pitched and two runs allowed. Over 24 career MLB appearances (13 starts) with Miami and New York-AL, Poteet has compiled a 5-4 record with a 3.80 ERA (35 earned runs in 83.0 innings).

As Poteet joins the Orioles organization, his experience and versatility provide added depth to the pitching staff heading into the 2025 season.
