This afternoon, the Astros recalled RHP Ronel Blanco from Triple A Sugar Land. Blanco has joined the Major League club at Comerica Park in Detroit. RHP Brandon Bielak was optioned to Triple A following yesterday afternoon’s game.
In three separate stints, Blanco has made 16 appearances (7 starts) for the Astros this season, posting a 2-1 record with a 4.68 ERA (26ER/50IP), tallying 51 strikeouts in his 50.0 innings pitched. This will be his 4th stint with the big club in 2023. His last appearance for the Astros was a start in a 3-2 win on Aug. 2 vs. Cleveland in which he had a no decision (4.0 IP, 2 ER). Blanco’s last appearance for the Space Cowboys was a start at home on Aug. 20 vs. Round Rock (4-3 loss, 5.1 IP, 4 ER, 7 SO, 89 pitches).
The Astros begin a 6-game road trip tonight in Detroit with the first of a three-game set over the weekend vs. the Tigers.
