OAKLAND, Calif. — The Oakland Athletics selected right-handed pitcher Austin Pruitt from Triple-A Las Vegas and designated right-handed pitcher Justin Grimm for assignment, the club announced today.
Pruitt was signed by the A’s to a minor league contract on March 14 and was a non-roster invitee this spring. He began the season at Las Vegas where he was 1-0 with a save, a 3.27 ERA and .238 opponents batting average in 12 relief appearances. The 32-year-old right-hander walked just two and struck out 20 in 22.0 innings. Pruitt made his Major League debut with Tampa Bay in 2017 and is 12-9 with five saves and a 4.83 ERA in 73 games, including 10 starts, in four seasons in the majors with the Rays (2017-19), Astros (2021) and Marlins (2021).
Grimm has spent the entire season with the A’s and logged a 4.11 ERA in 15 relief appearances. He allowed a .295 opponents batting average and walked seven while striking out 11 in 15.1 innings.
