OAKLAND, Calif. — The Oakland A’s selected right-handed pitcher Michel Otañez from Triple-A Las Vegas and optioned left-handed pitcher Jack O’Loughlin to Las Vegas, the club announced today. To clear a spot on the 40-man roster, left-handed pitcher Alex Wood was transferred to the 60-day IL.

Otañez has spent the entire season with Las Vegas where he is 4-0 with a save, a 3.99 ERA and .633 opponents OPS in 22 relief appearances. He has struck out 45 batters in 29.1 innings and has yielded just one home run but has 15 walks. The 26-year-old right-hander will be making his Major League debut after going 22-15 with 11 saves and a 4.92 ERA in 164 games, including 26 starts, in seven seasons in the minors. Otañez was originally signed by the Mets out of the Dominican Republic in 2016 before signing a minor league deal with Arizona following the 2022 season. He was a non-roster invitee with the A’s this spring and allowed three runs on no hits, four walks and a hit batter in 1.1 innings over two appearances.

O’Loughlin was selected from Las Vegas on May 25 and pitched three times in relief with Oakland in his Major League debut. He did not allow a run in 7.0 innings and yielded six hits and three walks while striking out three. O’Loughlin is 1-2 with a 5.12 ERA in 10 games, eight starts, with the Aviators.

Wood was 1-3 with a 5.26 ERA in nine starts when he was placed on the 15-day injured list May 15 retroactive to May 13 with left rotator cuff tendonitis.
