OAKLAND, Calif. — The Oakland A’s selected left-handed pitcher Francisco Pérez and optioned left-handed pitcher Sam Long to Las Vegas, the club announced today.
Pérez, 26, has made 25 appearances this year for Triple-A Las Vegas, going 4-1 with a save and a 4.86 ERA, 41 strikeouts, and 19 walks in 33.1 innings pitched. He has spent parts of two seasons in the Majors, most recently last year with Washington when he recorded a 7.27 ERA in 10 appearances. Overall, he has a 5.87 ERA in 15.1 career innings pitched at the Major League level. Pérez signed a minor league contract with the A’s on April 17 after being released by the Nationals.
Long is 0-1 with two saves and a 5.27 ERA in 38 outings with Oakland this season. Over his last 16 appearances with the A’s dating back to June 28, he is 0-1 with a 10.38 ERA, 10 walks, 11 strikeouts over 13.0 innings pitched.
