Option OF McDonald to Las Vegas; Return RHP Castellani to Las Vegas

OAKLAND, Calif. — The Oakland A’s reinstated infielder Jed Lowrie from the Covid-19 injured list and infielder Kevin Smith from the 10-day injured list, the club announced today. To clear spots on the roster, the A’s optioned outfielder Mickey McDonald to Triple-A Las Vegas and returned right-handed pitcher Ryan Castellani to Las Vegas.

Lowrie was on the A’s Opening Day roster and was 5-for-20 (.250) with a home run and four RBI in seven games before he was placed on the Covid-19 IL on April 18.

Smith was also on the A’s Opening Day roster and was batting .161 with a home run in 11 games when he was placed on the 10-day IL April 20, retroactive to April 19, with a bone bruise in his left ankle. He was assigned to Las Vegas for a rehab assignment on Wednesday and went 1-for-8 (.125) with a RBI in two games with the Aviators.

McDonald was selected from Las Vegas on April 20 and went 0-for-4 with two walks in four games in his Major League debut.

Castellani was added to the A’s roster as a substitute player on April 15 and did not allow an earned run in three appearances with Oakland. He yielded a .182 opponents batting average and did not walk a batter in 2.2 innings.
