A’s reinstate LHP Cole Irvin from IL; option INF Nick Allen to Las Vegas

OAKLAND, Calif. — The Oakland Athletics reinstated left-handed pitcher Cole Irvin from the 15-day injured list and optioned infielder Nick Allen to Triple-A Las Vegas, the club announced today.

Irvin was on the A’s Opening Day roster and began the season 2-1 with a 2.93 ERA in five starts before being placed on the 15-day injured list with left shoulder soreness, retroactive to May 2. He allowed one run or fewer in each of his last three starts (2 er in 16.0 ip, 1.13 ERA) and walked seven batters in 27.2 innings this season for an average of 2.28 per nine innings. The 28-year-old left-hander made one rehab start with Low-A Stockton, allowing one run on five hits while striking out six batters over 5.0 innings on May 17. 

Allen was recalled from Las Vegas on May 18 and went 0-for-4 with a hit-by-pitch over two games in this stint with the A’s. He began the year at Las Vegas but was added to the A’s roster as a substitute player on April 18 and made his Major League debut. He went 4-for-19 (.211) with a pair of doubles and two walks in eight games with Oakland before he was returned to the Aviators on May 3. The 23-year-old right-handed hitter went 9-for-49 (.184) with three RBI in 12 games with Las Vegas following his return and is batting .250 with a home run, five RBI and six stolen bases in 24 games overall at Triple-A.
