A’s Recall RHP McKay from Las Vegas; Option RHP Tapia to Las Vegas

OAKLAND, Calif. — The Oakland Athletics recalled right-handed pitcher David McKay from Triple-A Las Vegas and optioned right-handed pitcher Domingo Tapia to Las Vegas, the club announced today. The A’s also returned left-handed pitcher Zach Logue, the 27th man for the doubleheader yesterday, to Las Vegas.

McKay has pitched for five teams in three organizations this year and the A’s will be number six. He was with Tampa Bay this spring, was traded to the New York Yankees for cash on April 5, traded back to the Rays for cash on June 23 and claimed off waivers by Oakland on July 12. The 27-year-old right-hander did not allow a run in two relief appearances (3.0 ip) with Las Vegas and is a combined 3-0 with a save and a 3.45 in 23 relief appearances with the Aviators, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and Durham. McKay also appeared in two games with New York and one with Tampa Bay and has a 9.00 ERA in three Major League appearances.

Tapia was recalled from Las Vegas on July 10 for his third stint with Oakland and allowed four runs in 4.2 innings over three relief appearances. He has a 10.80 ERA in six games noverall and has combined for a 2.38 ERA, .217 opponents batting average and two saves in 21 outings with Triple-A Omaha and Las Vegas.

Logue started and lost the first game of the doubleheader yesterday and is now 3-5 with 4.79 ERA in eight games, including seven starts, in five stints with the A’s. He is also 3-2 with a 5.17 ERA, .317 opponents batting average and.998 OPS in 11 starts with Triple-A Las Vegas.
