A’s recall RHP Daulton Jefferies; option OF Seth Brown to Triple-A Las Vegas

OAKLAND, Calif. – The Oakland A’s recalled right-handed pitcher Daulton Jefferies from Triple-A Las Vegas and optioned outfielder Seth Brown to Las Vegas, the club announced today.

 

Jefferies joins the A’s for the first time this year and is scheduled to make his second Major League start today at Los Angeles (AL). He is 3-1 with a 5.19 ERA (34 er in 59.0 ip) over 12 starts with Triple-A Las Vegas this season. The 25-year-old right-hander did not allow a walk in seven of his 12 outings this season and his 1.37 walks per nine innings were the fewest among Triple-A West pitchers (min. 40.0 ip) at the time of his promotion. Jefferies made his Major League debut with Oakland last year and took the loss in his sole start in Game 1 of a doubleheader against Texas on Sept. 12 (2.0 ip, 5 h, 5 r, 5 er, 2 bb, so, 2 hr).

 

Brown was recalled from the A’s alternate site on April 6 and batted .199 (38-for-191) with seven doubles, one triple, 12 home runs, 30 RBI and 20 walks in 79 games. The left-handed hitter started 35 games in right field, three at designated hitter and two at first base. He went 4-for-17 (.235) with four RBI, a homer, a walk and a sacrifice fly as a pinch hitter and led AL pinch hitters in plate appearances (19), was tied for fourth in hits and was tied for third in RBI.
