OAKLAND, Calif. – The Oakland A’s recalled left-handed pitcher Sam Moll from Triple-A Las Vegas and placed right-handed pitcher Frankie Montas on the restricted list, the club announced today.
Moll joins the A’s for the second time this year. He pitched three times during his first stint from July 3 to 26 and did not allow a run in 2.2 innings (1 h, 3 bb, 2 so). The 29-year-old left-hander began the season at Triple-A Reno in the Arizona farm system and was traded to the A’s for cash in a minor league deal on July 2. Moll went 1-1 with two saves and a 1.69 ERA in 10 relief appearances with Las Vegas following his July 27 option and had a 4.45 ERA in 31 relief appearances overall at Triple-A. He allowed a .221 opponents batting average, including .118 with a .412 OPS against left-handed hitters.
