RHPs Kaprielian and Rios Placed on IL; INF Bride Optioned to Las Vegas

OAKLAND, Calif. — The Oakland A’s recalled right-handed pitcher Rico Garcia and infielder Jordan Diaz from Triple-A Las Vegas and reinstated left-handed pitcher Kirby Snead from the 60-day injured list, the club announced today.  The A’s also placed right-handed pitcher James Kaprielian on the 15-day injured list retroactive to June 27 with a strained right shoulder, placed right-handed pitcher Yacksel Rios on the 15-day IL retroactive to June 29 with Raynaud’s Syndrome, and optioned infielder Jonah Bride to Las Vegas.  Right-handed pitcher Mason Miller was transferred to the 60-day IL.

Garcia joins the A’s for the second time this year as he allowed five runs on five hits and three walks in 3.0 innings over three relief appearances during his first stint from May 4 to 10.  He had four saves and a 4.50 ERA in 13 relief appearances with the Aviators following his May 11 option and is 1-1 with six saves, a 4.45 ERA and .756 opponents OPS in 25 games overall at Triple-A.  The 29-year-old right-hander has held the opposition to a .212 batting average with Las Vegas but has issued 24 walks in 28.1 innings for a .362 on-base percentage.

Diaz also joins Oakland for the second time as he hit .217 with four home runs and eight RBI in 24 games during his first stint from April 19 to May 22.  He batted .321 with five home runs and 23 RBI in 26 games with Las Vegas following his May 23 option and is hitting .280 with 10 home runs, 39 RBI and a .796 OPS in 62 games overall with the Aviators.  The 22-year-old right-handed hitter made 22 starts at third base, nine at second base and six at designated hitter at Triple-A.

Snead began the season on the 60-day injured list with a strained left shoulder and started a rehab assignment with the A’s affiliate in the Arizona Complex League on June 6.  He made two appearances there before he was transferred to Triple-A Las Vegas on June 14 where he would make five more outings.  The 28-year-old left-hander was 0-2 with a 9.00 ERA in seven games, including one start, overall on his rehab assignment.  Snead allowed seven runs on eight hits and five walks in 7.0 innings while striking out four.

Kaprielian is 2-6 with a 6.34 ERA and .819 opponents OPS in 14 games, including 11 starts, over three stints with the A’s, but is 2-0 with a 3.47 ERA and .644 OPS over his last four starts.  Rios was acquired from Atlanta in a minor league trade on June 18 and allowed seven runs on three hits and six walks in 1.2 innings over three relief appearances with Oakland.  Bride was recalled from Las Vegas on May 29 for his first stint with the A’s this year and went 10-for-51 (.196) with four RBI in 21 games.  Miller was 0-2 with a 3.38 ERA and .551 opponents OPS in four starts with Oakland when he was placed on the IL retroactive to May 8 with tightness in his right forearm.
