OAKLAND, Calif. — The Oakland A’s placed outfielder Seth Brown on the 10-day injured list retroactive to April 9 with a strained left oblique and recalled infielder Kevin Smith from Triple-A Las Vegas, the club announced today.
Brown was 6-for-30 (.200) with a home run and two RBI in eight games. He had started each of the A’s first eight games, including the first seven in left field and Saturday at designated hitter.
Smith is 9-for-30 (.300) with five home runs and 12 RBI in seven games for Las Vegas, all starts at shortstop. He ranks second in the Pacific Coast League in stolen bases (4), third in home runs, fourth in RBI, sixth in slugging percentage (.833) and tied for sixth in runs scored (9) and extra base hits (6). The 26-year-old right-handed hitter went 4-for-6 with three home runs and seven RBI on April 2 at Reno. Smith hit .180 with two home runs, 13 RBI and a .518 OPS in 47 games with the A’s last year.
