OAKLAND, Calif. – The Oakland A’s placed outfielder Mark Canha on the 10-day injured list with a left hip strain and recalled infielder Vimael Machín from Triple-A Las Vegas, the club announced today.
Canha is batting .255 (69-for-271) with 12 doubles, four triples, 11 home runs, 13 hit-by-pitches, and 33 RBI in 74 games. He is batting .276 (21-for-76) with 18 RBI in 18 games in June and is tied for third in the American League in runs scored (55), tied for first in triples (4) and tied for fifth in games (73). Canha has made 71 of his 72 starts batting leadoff and started games at four different positions this year: left field (42), center field (21), right field (5), and designated hitter (4).
Machín joins the A’s for the second time this year. He was recalled from Las Vegas on April 16 and went 1-for-20 with a run and two walks in nine appearances before being optioned on May 14. He made three appearances at second base, two at third and three at shortstop. Machín is hitting .300 (36-for-120) with seven doubles, three triples, three home runs and 28 RBI in 31 games with Las Vegas.
