A’s place Machín on paternity list, select Mondou from Las Vegas

OAKLAND, Calif. — The Oakland Athletics placed Vimael Machín on the paternity list and selected infielder Nate Mondou from Triple-A Las Vegas, the club announced today.

Machín batted .220 with a home run and 13 RBI in 73 games with Oakland after being selected from Las Vegas on June 30.  He hit .183 in July but then improved to .246 in August and .244 in September.  Machín had a .333 average with runners in scoring position and made a team-leading 62 starts at third base.

Mondou will be making his Major League debut after spending the entire season at Las Vegas, where he batted .283 with 30 doubles, three triples, seven home runs and 64 RBI in 108 games.  He had 46 walks and was hit by a pitch 13 times to fuel a .374 on-base percentage.  The 27-year-old left-handed hitter ranked sixth in the Pacific Coast League in hit by pitches, eighth in on-base percentage, tied for eighth in doubles and 10th in batting average.  Mondou was the A’s 13th round selection in the 2016 draft and is a .278 hitter with 30 home runs, 316 RBI and a .752 OPS in 639 games over six seasons in the minors.  He has played mostly second base (487 games), but has also played third base (84), left field (14) and shortstop (4) in addition to four appearances on the mound.
