LHP A.J. Puk reinstated from the IL and optioned to Las Vegas
OAKLAND, Calif. – The Oakland A’s placed left-handed pitcher Reymin Guduan on the 10-day injured list retroactive to May 26 with a strained right groin and recalled right-handed pitcher Jordan Weems from Triple-A Las Vegas, the club announced today. The A’s also reinstated left-handed pitcher A.J. Puk from the injured list and optioned him to Las Vegas.
This is the second stint on the injured list for Guduan this year as he was previously sidelined from April 6 to 19 with a sprained left thumb. He compiled a 1.54 ERA in eight games since his return and has a 6.28 ERA and .345 opponents batting average in 11 relief appearances overall this year.
Weems joins the A’s for the third time this year as he was previously with the club from April 6 to 20 and May 2 to 11. He has a 6.23 ERA and a .133 opponents batting average in five relief appearances with Oakland. The 28-year-old right-hander also has a 4.91 ERA in four relief appearances with Las Vegas. He has not walked a batter and struck out six while allowing two runs on four hits in 3.2 innings.
Puk was recalled from the A’s alternate site on April 5 and pitched 3.1 scoreless innings that day against the Dodgers, allowing a hit and three walks while striking out four. He was placed on the 10-day injured list April 8 retroactive to April 6 with a strained left biceps. Puk began a rehab assignment with Las Vegas on May 11 and is 1-1 with a 14.40 ERA in five relief appearances with the Aviators. In 5.0 innings, he has allowed eight runs on 11 hits, including three home runs. He has walked one and struck out nine.
