DETROIT, Mich. — The Oakland Athletics have added right-handed pitcher Adrián Martínez as the 27th man for today’s doubleheader in Detroit starting at 10:10 a.m. PT.
Martínez was acquired by the A’s along with infielder Euribiel Angeles from the Padres for left-handed pitcher Sean Manaea on April 3. In five appearances, all starts, with Triple-A Las Vegas, he is 0-2 with a 7.45 ERA, 25 strikeouts and nine walks. He has allowed three runs or fewer in three of those five outings. The 25-year-old right-hander is a native of Mexico and was originally signed by the Padres on Feb. 16, 2015. He has pitched six seasons in the Padres and A’s farm systems and is 21-20 with a 4.47 ERA in 105 games, including 53 starts. Martínez, who missed the 2016 season following “Tommy John” surgery and the 2020 season due to the pandemic, has 357 strikeouts and 109 walks in 346.0 career innings.
