OAKLAND, Calif. — The Oakland A’s acquired left-handed pitcher Sam Long from the San Francisco Giants for cash considerations, the club announced today.
Long began the season at Triple-A Sacramento and was 1-0 with a 9.90 ERA in four relief appearances. He allowed 11 runs on 14 hits and five walks in 10.0 innings before he was designated for assignment on Wednesday. The 27-year-old left-handed pitcher was 1-3 with a save, a 3.61 ERA and .238 opponents batting average in 28 games, including six starts, with the Giants last year. Long has spent parts of two seasons in the majors with San Francisco and is 3-4 with a save and a 4.55 ERA in 40 games, including 11 starts.
