ANAHEIM – The Angels today have agreed to terms on a four-year, $58 million contract with RHP Raisel Iglesias ($10 million in 2022 and $16 million in 2023, 2024 and 2025, respectively).
Iglesias, 31, pitched in 65 games for the Angels in 2021, going 7-5 with 34 saves, a 2.57 ERA (70 IP – 20 ER) and 103 strikeouts. His 34 saves ranked second in the American League and were the most for an Angels pitcher since Huston Street (40) in 2015. Additionally, his 103 strikeouts were the fifth-most by an Angels reliever in a single season in Club history. Iglesias earned All-MLB Second Team honors and was the American League Reliever of the Month in July.
A native of Isla de la Juventud, Cuba, Iglesias was originally acquired by the Angels from Cincinnati on Dec. 7, 2020 in exchange for RHP RHP Noé Ramirez and INF Leonardo Rivas (PTBNL). In his seven Major League seasons, he has compiled 140 saves and pitched to a 3.06 ERA (481.2 IP – 164 ER) with 582 strikeouts. Iglesias is one of two closers with 30+ saves in each of the last four full MLB seasons (also, Kenley Jansen) and his 134 saves since 2017 rank third in the Majors.
In a corresponding 40-man roster move, RHP Sam Selman was designated for assignment.
