ACC FOOTBALL QUICK HITS

• Two key divisional matchups are on tap during Week 7 of the ACC football schedule. In the Coastal Division, Pitt travels to Virginia Tech for a 3:30 p.m. kickoff on ESPN2. Both teams are 1-0 in league play. In the Atlantic Division No. 22 NC State visits Boston College at 7:30 p.m. on ACC Network. Both teams are 4-1 overall.
• Pitt, which was off last week, leads the nation in scoring (52.4 ppg), is third in total offense (554.4 ypg) and ranks fourth in passing offense (389.0 ypg). Panthers’ QB Kenny Pickett has thrown 19 touchdown passes and just one interception through the first five games of the year.
• Virginia Tech blanked Pitt 28-0 in the most recent series meeting at Blacksburg in 2019 and has won seven of the previous nine games at Lane Stadium. The programs first met in 1993 as members of the Big East and played 11 consecutive seasons (through 2003). Saturday’s game will be the fifth home contest of the season for the Hokies, who also play host to Syracuse next week before
playing four of their final five on the road.
• Both NC State and Boston College had last weekend off. The Eagles hold a 9-6 edge versus NC State since joining the ACC. The series began in 1936 with Boston College winning 7-3 at Fenway Park. NC State returned the next season to post a 12-7 win in Chestnut Hill, and the teams didn’t meet again until 2005. Boston College snapped a two-game losing streak versus NC State in the most recent meeting two seasons ago, winning 45-24 as RBs AJ Dillon and David Bailey combined for 404 rushing yards and five touchdowns on 50 carries.
• Action gets underway on Friday night when Clemson travels to Syracuse for a 7 p.m. kickoff on ESPN. Clemson seeks its fourth consecutive victory in the series. QB Trevor Lawrence led a 41-6 Clemson win at the Carrier Dome in 2019, and the Tigers won 47-21 last year as the defense forced a momentum swinging strip-sack in the third quarter that was returned for a touchdown by Andrew Booth Jr. Clemson has won seven of the eight ACC meetings between the schools, but the Tigers have had their share of difficulty versus the Orange during that stretch, falling in 2017.
• Saturday’s schedule begins with Virginia hosting Duke at 12:30 p.m. on RSN. The Cavaliers scored three touchdowns in the fourth quarter last week to down Louisville and enter with one of the nation’s top offenses. QB Brennan Armstrong leads the nation in passing
and is on pace to break the ACC single-season mark for passing yards per game. The Blue Devils travel to Charlottesville for the third consecutive season. Virginia seeks its seventh consecutive win in its series vs. Duke, which was first played with a pair of games in Richmond in 1890 and 1891.
• Miami travels to Chapel Hill to face North Carolina at 3:30 p.m. on ACC Network. UNC seeks to defeat the Hurricanes three consecutive years for the first time since 2007-09. The teams met seven times in non-conference play between 1946 and 1963 before the series went on a 41-year hiatus. The Tar Heels have won six of the previous nine meetings at Kenan Stadium, but all three Miami wins have come since 2011.

AROUND THE ACC
• Boston College: WR Zay Flowers eclipsed the 100-reception mark for his career in the Clemson game. He finished the game with 101 career receptions and is the first Eagle to reach 100 since Bobby Swigert in 2013.
• Clemson: Against Boston College, Clemson won its 31st consecutive home game to extend its school record for both the longest home winning streak and longest home unbeaten streak in school history (as well as extend the nation’s longest active home winning streak). Of the 135 players on Clemson’s 2021 roster, 130 have never experienced a home loss in their Clemson careers.
• Duke: RB Mataeo Durant finished with 152 rushing yards on 43 carries and scored his ninth rushing touchdown of the season against Georgia Tech. The 43 total carries broke the single-game program record, previously held by Art Bosetti with 42 against South Carolina in 1970.
• Florida State: FSU did not take a sack or commit a turnover for the first time since 2019 in the win over UNC. OG Dillan Gibbons spearheaded FSU’s offensive line that paved the way for Jordan Travis and the FSU running backs to account for 238 rushing yards.
• Georgia Tech: Georgia Tech scored the game-winning TD with a less than a minute remaining vs. Duke. It was the first time since a 17-14 win over Boston College in the 2016 season opener in Dublin, Ireland that Tech scored a go-ahead, game-winning touchdown
with less than a minute to go in regulation.
• Louisville: RB Hassan Hall rushed 14 times for a career-best 162 yards and a touchdown against Virginia. It was his first career 100-yard rushing game and it included rushes of 52 and 53 yards, the two longest runs of the season for the Cardinals.
• Miami: Cam’Ron Harris tallied 100-plus yards for the second straight week in the loss to Virginia. Harris’ fifth multi-rushing touchdown performance moved him past Clinton Portis for the 10th-most rushing touchdowns in Miami history.
• North Carolina: WR Josh Downs, who hauled in a 33-yard TD pass against FSU, has caught at least one touchdown pass in every game this season.
• NC State: No. 22 NC State ran its home winning streak to seven straight games, all four this season, with a hard-fought 34-27 win over Louisiana Tech. The Wolfpack improved to 4-1 on the season, and won at Carter-Finley Stadium for the third straight week.
• Pitt: QB Kenny Pickett threw for 389 yards and four touchdowns in a 52-21 win over Georgia Tech. Pickett now has 15 TD passes over the last three games. Pickett broke Dan Marino’s Pitt record for most TD passes in a three-game stretch. Marino threw 13 in
three games during the 1981 season.
• Syracuse: RB Sean Tucker has 100-yard rushing totals in five of six games this season. Tucker rushed for 153 yards against Wake Forest to record his eighth 100- yard rushing game of his young career.
• Virginia: QB Brennan Armstrong threw for 183 yards during the fourth quarter of the win over Louisville. On the day, Armstrong completed 40 of 60 passes for 487 yards, three TDs and had two interceptions. His passing total was the second-highest in school history and marked the fourth time this season he passed for more than 400 yards in a game.
• Virginia Tech: DB Jermaine Waller is tied for the FBS lead with four INTs in 2021. He joins Iowa’s Riley Moss (two INT return TDs) as the only other Power 5 player in the nation with four INTs and an INT return score.
• Wake Forest: Dating back to last season, QB Sam Hartman has thrown at least one touchdown pass in 10-straight games. In the win over Syracuse, Hartman threw for 330 yards and three scores in the overtime win.
