Flushing, N.Y – The New York Mets announced today the acquisition of outfielder Jose Siri from the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for right-handed pitcher Eric Orze.
Jose Siri: Siri, 29, had an impressive 2024 season with the Rays, posting 16 doubles, 18 home runs, 47 RBIs, and 14 stolen bases across 130 games. He recorded a 1.8 WAR according to Baseball Reference. The 6-foot-2, 210-pound outfielder was tied for second among all outfielders in runs prevented and outs above average, according to MLB Statcast. He also ranked ninth in the majors in sprint speed last season.
A native of Sabana Grande de Boya, Dominican Republic, Siri set career highs in 2023 with 58 runs, 25 home runs, and 56 RBIs while playing for Tampa Bay. Between May and July, he hit 18 home runs, tying for the third-most in the American League behind Shohei Ohtani (32) and Luis Robert Jr. (24).
Siri has spent parts of four seasons in the majors with the Houston Astros and the Tampa Bay Rays, accumulating 42 doubles, six triples, 54 home runs, 136 RBIs, and 43 stolen bases in 356 games.
Eric Orze: Orze, 27, made his major league debut in 2024, appearing in two games and posting an 0-1 record. He was initially drafted by the Mets in the fifth round of the 2020 MLB Draft.
