ACC FOOTBALL QUICK HITS
• Four of the five games in Week 6 of the ACC football schedule are league matchups, and for the first time this season, all five games are set for Saturday kickoffs. The weekend begins with Georgia Tech (2-3, 1-2) at Duke (3-2, 0-1) at 12:30 p.m. on RSN. The series has been played consecutively since 1933 and is the longest continuous rivalry on Georgia Tech’s schedule. Games have been played at alternate home sites with the exception of consecutive meetings in Atlanta in 1981 and 1982. Georgia Tech is 22-21 versus Duke in Durham, though the Blue Devils have prevailed in the last three meetings on their home turf (2015, 2017, 2019). Led by Mataeo Durant, Duke leads the league in rushing at 222.6 ypg.
• Louisville (3-2, 1-1) hosts Virginia (3-2, 1-2) at 3 p.m. on ACC Network. The Cavaliers are coming off an exhilarating 30-28 victory at Miami, while the Cardinals
are seeking their second ACC win of the season. The Cardinals hold a 4-3 edge versus the Cavaliers in ACC play. Six of the nine games in the series have been decided by a touchdown or less. QB Brennan Armstrong threw for 203 yards and one touchdown, while rushing for two touchdowns in last year’s victory. Armstrong leads the ACC in total offense (408.0 ypg), and Louisville QB Malik Cunningham is fourth (323.0 ypg).
• Florida State (1-4, 1-2) travels to Chapel Hill to face North Carolina (3-2, 2-2) at 3:30 p.m. on ESPN. FSU and UNC are meeting in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 2009-10. The Seminoles rallied for a 30-27 win on their last visit to Kenan Stadium in 2009. In last year’s game, Florida State quarterback Jordan Travis ran for 107 yards and two touchdowns, while passing for 191 yards and one score. UNC QB Sam Howell has thrown a TD pass in every game of his career and ranks
fifth all-time in ACC history with 82.
• No. 19 Wake Forest (5-0, 3-0) looks to extend its five-game win streak when it travels to Syracuse (3-2, 0-1) at 3:30 p.m. on ESPN2. This is the third consecutive season Wake has traveled to Syracuse. The Orange own a 4-2 record against Wake Forest in the Carrier Dome, but the Demon Deacons posted a 38-14 win on their most recent visit last October. Led by QB Sam Hartman, Wake Forest is second in the league scoring 38.4 points per game, while limiting opponents to just 18.2.
• Saturday’s slate finishes with Notre Dame (4-1) at Virginia Tech (3-1) at 7:30 p.m. on ACC Network. This is only the fourth game in a series that began in 2016 and just the second time the game is in Blacksburg. Last year, QB Ian Book completed 25 of 35 pass attempts for 271 yards and two touchdowns to key the Irish to a
45-23 at Lane Stadium. The Hokies rank second in the league in scoring defense, holding opponents to 15.3 points per game.

• Two ACC teams are ranked in this week’s AP Top 25 – No. 19 Wake Forest and No. 23 NC State. Virginia Tech, Pitt and Boston College are receiving votes. In the USA
Today AFCA coaches top 25 poll, Wake Forest is No. 20, Clemson is No. 21 and NC State is No. 22. Pitt, Virginia Tech, Boston College and North Carolina are receiving votes.
AROUND THE ACC
• Boston College: WR Zay Flowers eclipsed the 100-reception mark for his career in the Clemson game. He finished the game with 101 career receptions and is the first Eagle to reach 100 since Bobby Swigert in 2013.
• Clemson: Against Boston College, Clemson won its 31st consecutive home game to extend its school record for both the longest home winning streak and longest home unbeaten streak in school history (as well as extend the nation’s longest active home winning streak). Of the 135 players on Clemson’s 2021 roster, 130 have never experienced a home loss in their Clemson careers.
• Duke: RB Mataeo Durant totaled 114 rushing yards and junior wide receiver Jalon Calhoun recorded 103 receiving yards to lead the Duke offense against North Carolina. The duo became the 34th pair of teammates to register 100-plus rushing and 100-plus receiving yards, respectively, in a single game in program history.
• Florida State: In securing the Seminoles’ first win of the season, QB Jordan Travis completed 22-of-32 passes for 131 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for a career-high 113 yards.
• Georgia Tech: Georgia Tech threw for 359 passing yards against Pitt. Those are the most passing yards in a game for GT since it threw for 365 yards vs. Western
Carolina on Sept. 1, 2011.
• Louisville: Louisville racked up season-highs for total yards (540), passing yards (332) and rushing yards (208) against Wake Forest. Louisville’s last game with
300 yards passing and 200 yards rushing was against Miami in the second week of the 2020 season.
• Miami: Cam’Ron Harris tallied 100-plus yards for the second straight week in the loss to Virginia. Harris’ fifth multi-rushing touchdown performance moved him past Clinton Portis for the 10th-most rushing touchdowns in Miami history.
• North Carolina: Sam Howell completed 18 of 32 pass attempts for 321 yards and three touchdowns in the win over Duke. He has thrown for 300 or more yards in four straight games, the longest streak of his career, and has 13 300+ passing-yard games in his career.
• NC State: No. 23 NC State ran its home winning streak to seven straight games, all four this season, with a hard-fought 34-27 win over Louisiana Tech. The Wolfpack improved to 4-1 on the season, and won at Carter-Finley Stadium for the third straight week.
• Pitt: QB Kenny Pickett threw for 389 yards and four touchdowns in a 52-21 win over Georgia Tech. Pickett now has 15 TD passes over the last three games. Pickett broke Dan Marino’s Pitt record for most TD passes in a three-game stretch. Marino threw 13 in three games during the 1981 season.
• Syracuse: RB Sean Tucker has 100-yard rushing totals in four of five games this season. Tucker rushed for 102 yards against FSU to record his seventh 100-yard rushing game of his young career.
• Virginia: DL Mandy Alonso had five tackles, including two sacks and three tackles for loss in the win over Miami. His biggest play was to break through the Miami offensive line and tackle the Hurricane ball carrier in the endzone.
• Virginia Tech: DE Amaré Barno has been added to the 2021 Ted Hendricks Award watch list. Barno is tied for second on the team in tackles for loss this season after recording 3.5 TFL including 1.5 sacks versus North Carolina (9/3).
• Wake Forest: Sam Hartman threw for 324 yards against Louisville, his first 300-yard passing game of the season and the seventh of his career. Additionally, Hartman tossed two touchdown passes and is now tied for the fifth all-time in Wake Forest history with 44 career TD passes.
2021 SUBWAY ACC FCG SET FOR 8 P.M.
• The 2021 Subway ACC Football Championship Game will kick off at 8 p.m. on ABC on Saturday, Dec. 4, at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina. The game will feature the winner of the Atlantic Division vs. the winner of the Coastal Division.
• This is the 12th time in the last 13 years that the game has been held in primetime. Twelve different teams have competed in the game, including a different Coastal Division team every year from 2013-19. Last season, No. 3 Clemson defeated No. 2 Notre Dame – which played in the ACC in 2020 as a full football member due to the COVID-19 pandemic – by a score of 34-10 in the mostviewed ACC Championship Game of all time.
ACC – THE CONFERENCE OF QUARTERBACKS
• Pitt QB Kenny Pickett threw for 389 yards and four touchdowns in a 52-21 win over Georgia Tech. Per ESPN Stats & Info, Pickett’s third straight game with at least
four passing TDs is the longest streak by an ACC quarterback since Russell Wilson in 2009. On the year, Pickett now has 19 TD passes against just one interception.
• Wake Forest QB Sam Hartman completed 23 of 40 passes in the Deacons win over Louisville with two touchdown passes, 35 rushing yards and one rushing score. Saturday marked his first 300-yard passing game of the season and the seventh of his career. Additionally, Hartman is now tied for fifth all-time in Wake Forest history with 44 career TD passes. Dating back to last season, Hartman has now thrown at least one touchdown pass in nine straight games.
• North Carolina QB Sam Howell completed 18 of 32 passes for 321 yards and three touchdowns in the win over Duke. He has thrown for 300 or more yards in four straight games, the longest streak of his career, and has 13 300-plus passing-yard games in his career. Howell has thrown a touchdown pass in all 30 games as a Tar Heel, the longest active streak in the country. He has thrown multiple touchdown passes in 25 of 30 games and three or more 17 times.
• Georgia Tech QB Jeff Sims had a career-high 359 passing yards and two touchdowns against Pitt. Sims’ 359 passing yards were the most by a Georgia Tech quarterback since George Godsey threw for 486 yards vs. Virginia on Nov. 10, 2001.
• Louisville QB Malik Cunningham was 19 for 26 with 309 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for 46 yards and two more scores against Wake Forest. It was the second straight game for Cunningham with four touchdowns, giving him six such games in his career. Cunningham moved into fifth place all-time at Louisville for touchdowns responsible for with 78 in his career, tied with Teddy Bridgewater.
• Syracuse QB Garrett Schrader tied the Syracuse single-game record with three rushing touchdowns while rushing for 137 yards against Florida State. Schrader also
threw for 150 yards and a score.
• FSU signal caller Jordan Travis passed for 131 yards and two touchdowns and added 113 yards on the ground in the win over Syracuse.
• Nine different quarterbacks from ACC schools have started at least one game in the NFL this season – most of any conference. Those players come from seven different schools, including BC’s Matt Ryan (Falcons), Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence (Jaguars), Duke’s Daniel Jones (Giants), Florida State’s Jameis Winston (Saints), Louisville’s Teddy Bridgewater (Broncos) and Lamar Jackson (Ravens), NC State’s Jacoby Brissett (Dolphins) and Russell Wilson (Seahawks) and Virginia Tech’s Tyrod Taylor (Texans).
• North Carolina quarterback Sam Howell has thrown 82 touchdown passes, which tied FSU’s Chris Weinke for fifth in ACC history. Howell’s 68 passes in his first two
seasons were the most through a sophomore season in league history. The record for most TD passes in three seasons is 90 by Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence and Deshaun Watson.
