Two Additional Sounders FC Players Called into International Duty

Alex Roldan and Xavier Arreaga have all been called-up to play for their respective national teams for upcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifying matches; Sounders FC now has a total of five players called into international duty

SEATTLE, WASH. – Two more Seattle Sounders FC players have been called into international duty, as Alex Roldan and Xavier Arreaga are set to join the El Salvador and Ecuador, respectively, for upcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifying matches.

The two players join Raúl Ruidíaz, Crisitan Roldan and Nouhou, who were all recently announced to be joining their respective national teams for the October round of qualifying matches, as well.

Alex Roldan, 25, earns his third career call-up for El Salvador, previously getting the nod for the team’s 2021 Concacaf Gold Cup tournament run and most recent round of World Cup Qualifying matches. He scored a goal in his first appearance with the squad, a 2-0 win over Guatemala in the group stage of the Gold Cup. Roldan started all three of El Salvador’s matches during its September round of Qualifying matches. El Salvador is scheduled to play Panama on October 7, Costa Rica on October 10 and Mexico October 13. El Salvador stands in seventh place in the Concacaf standings after one round of qualifying matches (0-1-2, 2 points). He has started 20 matches for Sounders FC during its 2021 campaign, scoring one goal.

Arreaga, 27, is set to join Ecuador for another round of FIFA World Cup Qualifying matches, having been called up earlier in September, as well. Arreaga has appeared in seven matches during Ecuador’s 2022 World Cup Qualifying campaign, including its match against Paraguay on September 2. La Tri is set to play three matches in this round of qualifiers against Bolivia on October 7, Venezuela on October 10 and Colombia on October 14. Ecuador is currently in fourth place in the CONMEBOL World Cup Qualifying table (4-4-1, 13 points). The Ecuadorian has scored two goals in 18 appearances for the Rave Green this year.

After emerging victorious against the San Jose Earthquakes in midweek action, Seattle returns home to host the Colorado Rapids at Lumen Field later today (7:00 p.m. PT / FOX 13+, Prime Video, 1090 KJR AM, El Rey 1360 AM).
