Adrien Broner, known for his dynamism in the ring, faces a setback due to a right-hand injury. This unforeseen twist means he’ll miss the action at Don King’s People’s Championship boxing event, scheduled for December 2nd at Casino Miami Jai Alai.
Broner expressed his frustration over not being able to clash with Chris Howard in what was supposed to be a preparatory bout on his journey towards the championship. Despite this hiccup, he’s eyeing a comeback by late February.
“Forget about warm-up fights,” Broner asserts confidently. “I’m game to challenge any current champion in the 140- and 147-pound divisions. Bring on the big names – Ryan Garcia, Rolando Romero, or whoever triumphs in the Regis Prograis—Devin Haney bout. I’ve still got what it takes!”
Kevin Cunningham, Broner’s coach, detailed the injury’s history. “Adrien initially hurt his hand during his June 9th fight against William Hutchinson,” Cunningham explains. “After six weeks of training for this upcoming event, he aggravated the injury during sparring. Despite receiving cortisone shots and resuming training, the injury persisted, leading the doctor to recommend a break from the ring.”
Cunningham remains optimistic, promising Don King that Broner will be in peak condition for a championship fight come late February.
Don King shares this positive outlook. “Adrien is primed for the big leagues,” he says. “As a four-time World Champion, I see him clinching four more titles under my promotion. We’re still excited to host the People’s Championship card on December 2nd, featuring six title fights.”
The spotlight of the event now shifts to the thrilling main event: Ian Green, the sensational WBA Continental America’s middleweight champion from Haledon, NJ, will take on Vaughn Alexander of St. Louis for the WBA Continental North American Middleweight title.
Additionally, Newburgh’s Tre’Sean Wiggins is set to defend his NABA Welterweight title against a yet-to-be-named opponent.
With four more title fights to be announced, the event promises an electrifying night with six championship bouts.
