Twins add two to Major League roster

MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL, MN – The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have added infielder/outfielder Austin Martin and outfielder Emmanuel Rodriguez to their major league 40-man roster.

Martin, 24, spent most of last season with Triple-A St. Paul, hitting .263 (54-for-205) with 11 doubles, six home runs, 28 RBI, 33 runs scored, 36 walks, 16 stolen bases (20 attempts) and a .387 on-base percentage in 59 games. He missed the first two months recovering from a right elbow strain and posted a slashline of .295/.422/.465 in his final 37 games for the Saints. He played in the SiriusXM Futures Game in 2021 and in the Arizona Fall League in 2022. The DeLand, Florida native was originally selected fifth overall by Toronto in the 2020 First-Year Player Draft and was acquired by the Twins at the 2021 trade deadline along with right-handed pitcher Simeon Woods Richardson, in exchange for right-handed pitcher José Berríos. The 6-foot, 185-pound utility player is ranked as the 20th-best prospect in the Twins system, per MLB.com.

Rodriguez, 20, spent the 2023 season with High-A Cedar Rapids, hitting .240 (85-for-354) with 13 doubles, nine triples, 16 home runs, 55 RBI, 87 runs scored, 92 walks, 20 stolen bases (25 attempts), a .400 on-base percentage and an .863 OPS in 99 games for the Kernels. The 5-foot-10, 210-pound outfielder ranked tied for second among all High-A players in walks and triples, fourth in OPS and runs scored and sixth in OBP, and was named to the Midwest League Midseason All-Star team. The Santiago de los Caballeros, Dominican Republic native was originally signed by the Twins in July of 2019 and is ranked as the club’s third-best prospect, per MLB.com.

After adding catcher Jair Camargo and infielder Yunior Severino to the 40-man roster on November 6, the Twins now have 38 players on their major league roster: 19 pitchers, three catchers, eight infielders and eight outfielders.
