NHL Preview: Anaheim Ducks (9-6-0) at Colorado Avalanche (9-5-0)

ANAHEIM DUCKS NOTES:

TONIGHT’S GAME: The Anaheim Ducks conclude their two-game road trip tonight when they visit the Colorado Avalanche at Ball Arena for the second contest a of back-to-back matchup (6 p.m. PT, TV: Bally Sports SoCal/San Diego, AUDIO: Ducks Stream). Anaheim enters tonight 8-2-0 in their last 10 contests in addition to five consecutive road wins, with four of those coming via third period comebacks. Anaheim’s last five straight wins on the road were part of a six-game win streak away from Honda Center Nov. 27 to Dec. 17, 2018 (6-0- 0). The Ducks have scored 36 goals the last 10 games while killing 35-of-41 penalties (85.4%). Anaheim has also killed 21 of the last 22 penalties dating to Oct. 30 (95.5%, span of seven games). The Ducks continue their 14-game November schedule (10 home, four road), posting a 4-2-0 record this month and 160-138-66 record in the month all-time. Tonight also closes Anaheim’s third set of back-to-back matchup this season, posting a 2-3-0 record overall (1-1-0 in the second game). Following tonight’s game, the Ducks will return to Orange County to begin a four-game homestand beginning Friday, Nov. 17 vs. the Florida Panthers at Honda Center. The homestand also includes visits from St. Louis (Sunday, Nov. 19, 5 p.m. PT), Montreal (Wednesday, Nov. 22, 7 p.m. PT) and Los Angeles (Friday, Nov. 24, 12:30 p.m. PT).

CARDIAC COMEBACKS: Anaheim’s made NHL history with a 3-2 win Nov. 14 @ NSH, becoming the first team in league history to record six third-period comeback wins through 15 games in a season. Anaheim trailed Nashville 2-0 in the second period, scoring three unanswered goals. Anaheim leads the NHL with three multi-goal comeback wins this season and now co-lead the NHL with the most comeback wins overall (6). Five of Anaheim’s six comeback victories came during the club’s six-game win streak Oct. 24-Nov. 5. The Ducks were the third club in NHL history to post at least five third-period comeback victories throughout a win streak of any length, joining the 2018-19 Sabres (6 in 10 GP) and 2013-14 Penguins (5 in 15 GP). The Ducks are also one of two teams this season (also Toronto) to record multiple two-goal, third period comeback wins. The Ducks also co-lead the NHL with five comeback wins overall.

DUCKS-AVALANCHE: Anaheim and Colorado open a three-game season series tonight with the first of two matchups at Ball Arena. The Ducks have points in six of their last 10 road contests vs. the Avalanche (5-4-1). During the 2022-23 season series, Anaheim had a 5-3 win Jan. 26 in Denver and earned a point in a 5-4 OT loss Apr. 9 at Honda Center. Frank Vatrano (5-0=5) led the Ducks in scoring and goals, including his first hat trick as a Duck Jan. 26 (3-0=3), while Cam Fowler (0-3=3) led the team in assists. The Ducks own a 48- 44-9 all-time record with 23-23-4 mark in Colorado. Fowler (6-14=20) and Jakob Silfverberg (10-10=20) pace active Ducks skaters in career scoring vs. the Avalanche while Fowler leads in assists and Silfverberg leads in goals. The two teams next meet Dec. 2 at Honda Center (7 p.m.) and close out the season series Dec. 5 at Ball Arena (6 p.m.).

COLORADO AVALANCHE NOTES:

TONIGHT’S OPPONENT – ANAHEIM DUCKS

Tonight is the first of three meetings between the Avalanche and Ducks and the first of two here in Denver…The Avs finished 2-1-0 against the Ducks last season, 0-1-0 at home and 2-0-0 on the road…Colorado is 9-1-0 in its last 10 meetings against Anaheim and 10-1-1 in its last 12 matchups in this series…Colorado has won its last five visits to the Honda Center and owns a 7-1-0 record in its last eight trips to Anaheim.
