LAST GAME
The Hurricanes suffered a 6-4 loss against the Colorado Avalanche at Ball Arena on Saturday. Jesperi Kotkaniemi (1g, 1a), Stefan Noesen (2a) and Jaccob Slavin (1g, 1a) each tallied two points, while Michael Bunting and Brent Burns each lit the lamp for Carolina. Callahan Burke also made his Hurricanes debut, and Pyotr Kochetkov made 22 saves in net.

HURRICANES vs. LIGHTNING SERIES NOTES
— Carolina is facing Tampa Bay in the first of three meetings between the teams during the 2023-24 season.

The Tampa Bay Lightning had a multi-goal lead going into the third period, but gave up two goals with less than 10 minutes to play in regulation before falling to the Toronto Maple Leafs 4-3 in overtime at AMALIE Arena Saturday night…The Bolts fell to 2-2-2 on the season with a home record of 2-0-1…William Nylander opened the scoring early in the first period when he tallied his fourth goal of the season 4:16 into the contest…After Matthew Knies was sent to the penalty box for cross-checking at the 6:10 mark, the Lightning immediately responded and evened the score 1-1 just 16 seconds into the power play…Collecting the puck at the point, Victor Hedman sent a pass to the right circle for Nikita Kucherov, who exchanged passes with Brayden Point and quickly wired a shot to the far post and past Ilya Samsonov for his fifth goal of the campaign…Tampa Bay went up 2-1 3:38 later when Point sent the puck across the offensive zone to Kucherov, who found Alex Barré-Boulet waiting on the back door, where he was able to redirect his first goal of the season through the five hole of Samsonov with 9:56 remaining in the period…Kucherov added his second power-play goal of the night 3:25 later when he hammered a one-timer past Samsonov off a pass from Mikhail Sergachev with Steven Stamkos picking up the secondary assist…Following a scoreless second period, Knies tallied back-to-back goals at the 12:11 and 14:33 marks of the third period to force overtime…John Tavares scored the game-winning goal 4:05 into the extra frame to complete the comeback win for TOR…Jonas Johansson got the start in goal for the Lightning and made a career-high 48 saves in the loss…Tampa Bay goaltending coach Frantz Jean coached his 1,000th NHL game.
