TONIGHT’S GAME
The Capitals visit the Ottawa Senators on Wednesday at Canadian Tire Centre for the first of three meetings between the teams this season. LAST GAME: Oct. 15, 5-2 win vs Tampa Bay: Tkachuk became only the second player in franchise history to score twice on consecutive days in leading the Senators to a 5-2 win over Tampa Bay at Canadian Tire Centre. The team’s captain also contributed an assist for a game-high three points. Tarasenko also posted a multi-point (one goal, one assist) effort which included his first goal in an Ottawa uniform. Joseph and Stützle notched the home side’s other two markers while Cirelli and Jeannot (one goal, one assist) replied for the Lightning. Korpisalo made 22 saves to earn his first victory in goal with the Senators. Tomkins made 33 saves in a losing effort for Tampa Bay on a night that saw him make his NHL debut. STAY OF EXECUTION: After suffering defeat in an all-time series-high 10 consecutive games (0-8-2) from 10/5/17 through 1/22/22, the Senators have rebounded to win four of their last five meetings against the Capitals ahead of tonight’s contest against Washington – the only one of this season in Ottawa – at Canadian Tire Centre. The Senators earned five of a possible six points against the Capitals last season with the lone blemish a 3-2 overtime setback on 12/22/22 as Marcus Johansson became only the second Capital (and the first since Jaromir Jagr on 3/2/02) to tally an overtime winner in Ottawa.
