WHITE SOX AT A GLANCE
The Chicago White Sox have lost nine of the last 12 games, 14 of 19, 26 of 37 and 38 of 55 as they continue their final trip of the season tonight with the series opener at Boston. RHP Touki Toussaint is scheduled to start for the White Sox, who are a season-high 37 games under the .500 mark for the first time since the end of the 2018 season (62-100) … the Sox need to win five of their final nine games to avoid 100 losses. The White Sox opened the trip losing two of three at Washington, including a 13-3 defeat in Wednesday’s deciding game. Following this weekend’s at Fenway Park, Chicago will finish the 2023 regular season with a six-game homestand vs. National League West teams Arizona (9/25-27) and San Diego (9/29-10/1). The Sox went 2-5 on their last homestand from 9/11-17 vs. Kansas City (1-2) and Minnesota (1-3) and 2-4 on the last trip from 9/4-10 at the Royals (1-2) and Detroit (1-2).
TONIGHT’S STORYLINES
The White Sox have not won a series since 8/7-9 vs. the Yankees, or a road series since 8/4-6 at Cleveland. Sox starters own a 2.00 ERA (6 ER/27.0 IP), .188 (17-92) opp. average and 25 strikeouts over the last five games … starters have allowed one run four times, and recorded three QS. Chicago is 5-2 in its last seven games at Fenway Park … five of the seven games have been decided by three runs or less. Touki Toussaint has allowed three earned runs or less in four of his last five starts, including 25 strikeouts over 22.1 IP. Tim Anderson is 16-38 (.421) with a double, RBI and three multi-hit eff ort during his 10-game hitting streak. Yoán Moncada has reached safely in 25 of his last 27 games with a plate appearance, batting .330/.368/.550 (33-100) with five homers, 18 RBI, six walks, eight multi-hit eff orts and a .918 OPS. Andrew Vaughn is 12-39 (.308) with three doubles, a homer and fi ve RBI in his last 10 games (hit safely in eight contests).
TODAY’S ROSTER MOVES
The White placed RHP Michael Kopech on the 15-day injured list with right knee inflammation and recalled RHP Yohan RamÃrez from Class AAA Charlotte. Kopech underwent successful surgery this morning to remove a cyst from his right knee (expected recovery is 6-8 weeks). RamÃrez, who was claimed off waivers from Pittsburgh on 9/5, has made four relief appearances with Charlotte.
LONG BALL LUIS
Luis Robert Jr. on Tuesday extended his career high and club record for a center fielder with his 37th home run of the season. He is just the 11th Sox (17th time) to hit 37-plus home runs in a season, and the first since 3B Todd Frazier hit 40 in 2016. Robert Jr. is on pace for 39 home runs, just shy of reaching the Top 10 in single-season homers in White Sox history.
WHITE SOX VS. BOSTON RED SOX
The White Sox lead the season series after winning two of three from 6/23-25 at Guaranteed Rate Field. The White Sox are hitting .258/.291/.485 with six homers, own a 2.00 ERA (6 ER/27.0 IP) and a 10-8 edge in runs scored. Chicago won the 2022 series, 4-2, recording a sweep from 5/6-8 at Fenway Park before losing two of three at home from 5/24-26. The Sox have won five of the last six games since 4/18/21 and six of eight since 6/26/19 at Fenway Park. SERIES BUSINESS: The Red Sox lost their 3-game series at TEX to fall to 23-23-3 in series play. The Sox have lost a season-high 5 consecutive series, their longest streak since 4/19-5/8/2022 (6 series). Boston is 13-11-0 in home series (10-12-3 on the road). They’ve surpassed their 2022 series win total (22-24-6).

Ort retired one of his three batters faced on Tuesday at Lehigh Valley (0.1 IP, H, BB, SO, 16 pitches)…It was his 2nd rehab outing for Worcester after tossing a scoreless inning Saturday vs. Syracuse (SO, 18 pitches).
THE INCREDIBLE HOUCK: Tanner Houck is the Red Sox’ nominee for the 2023 Roberto Clemente Award, recognizing the player who best represents the game of baseball through extraordinary character, community involvement, philanthropy, and positive contributions both on and off the field.
He will be honored in pregame ceremonies tonight, celebrating the 21st annual Roberto Clemente Day.
