DETROIT TIGERS NOTES:
TIGERS DROP SECOND STRAIGHT TO YANKEES: The Tigers lost to the Yankees, 4-3, on Wednesday night at Yankee Stadium. Kerry Carpenter went 1×3 with a RBI and a walk, while Andy Ibáñez also added a hit and drove in a run. Matt Manning started and threw a scoreless inning with one strikeout before exiting due to an injury. Tyler Holton worked 2.0 scoreless innings with three punchouts in relief, while Jason Foley and Alex Lange each pitched a shutout frame.
ROSTER MOVES: The Tigers have announced the following roster moves:
*Placed RHP Matt Manning on the 15-day injured list with a right foot fracture *Recalled RHP Trey Wingenter from Triple A Toledo
A CARPENTER AND HIS TOOLS: Kerry Carpenter was on base twice last night, going 1×3 with a RBI and a walk. Carpenter has hit safely in 27 of his last 31 games, over which he is batting .368/.429/.667 with five doubles, one triple, nine home runs and 22 RBI. Among qualified American League hitters since August 4, Carpenter ranks second in OPS (1.095), while he is third in batting average, fourth in slugging percentage, fifth in on-base percentage, tied for sixth in home runs and tied for 10th in RBI.
MOVIN’ ON UP: Miguel Cabrera drove in Detroit’s only run of the game on Monday, hitting a game-tying RBI single in the sixth inning. Cabrera has driven in seven runs over his last six games and has hit safely in six of his last seven contests. With his hit on Monday, Cabrera now has 3,159 in his career, seven shy of tying Adrián Beltré (3,166) for 16th in MLB history.
ON THE ROAD: The Tigers are 3-2 on their current six-game road trip, which includes three games at Chicago (AL) (3-0) and three games at New York (AL) (0-2). Detroit is 34-36 away from Comerica Park this season. As a team, the Tigers are hitting .228/.295/.375 on the road, while the pitching staff has a 4.06 ERA (604.2IP/273ER).
TIGERS AND YANKEES: The Tigers and Yankees conclude their season series tonight. The Yankees have won five of the first six meetings against Detroit this season. With Tuesday’s win, New York (AL) clinched the season series for the second straight year.
ON DECK: The Tigers open a six-game homestand tomorrow as they begin a three-game series against the White Sox. The two teams met last weekend with the Tigers sweeping a three-game series. Detroit has a 6-4 record against Chicago (AL) this season, including a 3-1 mark at Comerica Park.
INJURY REHAB UPDATE: Mason Englert made an injury rehab appearance with Triple A Toledo last night, throwing a scoreless inning with one hit allowed, one walk and two strikeouts. Englert has been sidelined since July 24 with left hip tightness.

- Rodriguez will make his 22nd start of the season tonight in the series finale at New York (AL). Earned his 10th win of the season in his last start on Friday at Chicago (AL), allowing a run on six hits with two walks and seven strikeouts in 6.2 innings…marked the fifth time in his career he has won 10-ormore games in a season and became the first Tigers pitcher to post at least 10 victories in a season since Michael Fulmer and Justin Verlander each had 10 wins in 2017. Has made 24 appearances, including 22 starts, in his career against the Yankees, compiling an 8-6 record with a 3.76 ERA (122.0IP/51ER) and 116 strikeouts…in 11 career starts at Yankee Stadium, Rodriguez is 3-4 with a 3.69 ERA (63.1IP/26ER) and 59 strikeouts. Among American League pitchers with at least 120.0 innings pitched, he ranks fifth in FIP (3.15), while he is sixth in ERA (3.11), eighth in opponent batting average (.229) and 10th in WHIP (1.12). Threw 7.0 scoreless innings with four hits allowed, three walks and five strikeouts on August 8 vs. Minnesota…was his fifth start this season with at least 7.0 shutout innings, the most such starts by a Tigers pitcher since Justin Verlander, who also had five outings with at least 7.0 scoreless innings in 2013. Since 2018, he has a .659 winning percentage, which ranks sixth among all active Major League pitchers over that span (min. 120 starts).
NEW YORK YANKEES NOTES:
AT A GLANCE: The Yankees continue a six-game homestand tonight with the final game of a three-game set vs. Detroit (2-0 thus far)…will also face Milwaukee this weekend (Fri.-Sun.)… went 7-3 on their recent 10-game road trip, going 1-2 at Tampa Bay, 3-1 at Detroit and sweeping a three-game set at Houston.
