OAKLAND, Calif. — The Oakland A’s recalled left-handed pitcher Sam Long and catcher/first baseman Tyler Soderstrom from Triple-A Las Vegas, the club announced today.
Long joins the A’s for the second time this year and is 0-1 with two saves, a 5.27 ERA and .763 opponents OPS with Oakland. He was acquired from San Francisco on April 23 and pitched in 38 games before he was optioned to Las Vegas on Aug. 12. The 28-year-old left-hander pitched in five games for the Aviators and compiled a 1.35 ERA, allowing a run on five hits and two walks while striking out eight in 6.2 innings.
Soderstrom also reports to Oakland for the second time after batting .165 with two home runs, five RBI and a .484 OPS in 27 games in his Major League debut. He was selected from Las Vegas on July 14 but was optioned on Aug. 21 and went 6-for-26 (.231) with a home run and three RBI in eight Triple-A games in August. The 21-year-old left-handed hitter batted .252 with 21 home runs, 62 RBI and a .834 OPS in 77 games overall with the Aviators.
