White Sox recall Pitcher Luis Patino and Infielder Jose Rodriguez

CHICAGO – Prior to tonight’s series opener vs. Detroit, the Chicago White Sox recalled right-handed pitcher Luis Patiño from Class AAA Charlotte and infielder José Rodríguez from Class AA Birmingham.

 Patiño, 23, went 0-1 with a 5.65 ERA (9 ER/14.1 IP) and 13 strikeouts in five starts with Charlotte after being acquired from Tampa Bay on August 1 in exchange for cash considerations. He was 3-4 with a 6.75 ERA (34 ER/45.1 IP) and 38 strikeouts over 27 games (six starts) with Class AAA Durham this season, and he also made two relief appearances with Tampa Bay.

Patiño, 6-foot-1 and 190 pounds, has gone 7-5 with a 5.23 ERA (69 ER/118.2 IP) and 111 strikeouts in 38 career games (22 starts) over parts of four major-league seasons with San Diego (2020) and the Rays (2021-23).

The Barranquilla, Colombia, native originally was signed by the Padres as an international free agent on July 2, 2016. He was traded to Tampa Bay as part of a five-player deal on December 29, 2020 that sent left-hander Blake Snell to San Diego.

Patiño will wear uniform No. 77.

Rodríguez, 22, is hitting .264/.297/.450 (101-382) with 17 doubles, 18 home runs, 54 RBI, 63 runs scored and 28 stolen bases in 87 games this season with Birmingham. He is tied for eighth in the Southern League in homers and tied for ninth in steals.

Over his last 60 games, Rodríguez is batting .307/.337/.521 (80-261) with 14 home runs, 46 RBI and 53 runs scored. He was with the White Sox from June 19-25, scoring the game-winning run in his major-league debut on June 20 vs. Texas.

Rodríguez, 5-11 and 200 pounds, is a career .285/.326/.450 (486-1,706) hitter with 54 homers, 227 RBI, 276 runs scored and 121 stolen bases in five minor-league seasons after signing with the White Sox as a free agent on February 13, 2018. He entered the season rated by MLB.com as the No. 6 prospect in the organization.

Rodríguez will wear uniform No. 55.

The White Sox active roster increases to 28.
