Nationals pitcher Nolin disciplined

Washington Nationals pitcher Sean Nolin has received a five-game suspension and an undisclosed fine for intentionally hitting Freddie Freeman of the Atlanta Braves during the bottom of the first inning of Wednesday’s game at Truist Park in Atlanta. Michael Hill, Major League Baseball’s Senior Vice President for On-Field Operations, made the announcement.

In addition, Nationals manager Dave Martinez has received a one-game suspension and an undisclosed fine as a result of Nolin’s actions. Martinez will serve his suspension tonight, when the Nationals are scheduled to play the host Pittsburgh Pirates.

The suspension of Nolin had been scheduled to begin tonight. However, Nolin has elected to appeal. Thus, the discipline will be held in abeyance until the process is complete.
