The Rays are 5-1-1 in their last seven series on the heels of a 2-7-1 performance in series play from 6/12-7/23…they are 5-1-0 in road series since the All-Star break after going 5-6-2 in the first half of the season.
Tampa Bay ranks among the AL’s August leaders in batting average (2nd, .297), hits (4th, 147), runs per game (4th, 5.27) and OPS (6th, .762).
Last night’s victory marked the third instance this season in which every member of the Rays starting lineup recorded a hit (also: 6/23 vs. KC, 8/14 at SF)…nine different Rays crossed home plate in the win, matching the club’s most players scoring a run in any game this season (also 6/30 at SEA).
The nine runs marked Tampa Bay’s most without the assist of a home run since 7/11/22 vs. Boston (W, 10-5)…the Rays hit into just the fourth triple play in club
history in the ninth inning as the Angels went 6-4-3-2 to halt Tampa Bay’s rally attempt…it marked the first triple play turned against the Rays since the Yankees went 5-4-3 on 4/17/14 at Tropicana Field.
The Rays improved to 3-3 in extra-inning games…the six extra-inning contests are tied with Texas for the fewest in the AL…in 2022, Tampa Bay went to extras a club-record and MLB-leading 21 times, going 11-10.

ROAD WARRIORS — The Rays are 8-3 (.700) over their last 11 road games since 7/30, the third-best road winning percentage in the majors during that span behind the Mariners (9-1/.900) and Dodgers (5-1/.833)…they have outscored opponents, 65-38 (+27), during the run, scoring 5+ times in eight of those 11 games…it marks their best record over any 11- game span on the road since 4/4-29 (also 8-3)…this comes on the heels of a 3-7 stretch in opposing ballparks from 7/1-29.
The Rays have won each of their last four road series, their longest such streak since also winning four straight from 7/16-8/12, 2021…today, they are seeking a fifth consecutive road series victory for the first time since 8/10-9/2, 2020 — that streak was part of Tampa Bay’s 7-1-0 run in road series play to conclude the pandemic-shortened 2020 campaign.
ON THE OFFENSIVE — The Rays have pushed across 6+ runs in five of their last seven games, averaging 6.00 runs per game in those contests despite being shut out on 8/15 at San Francisco…they are batting .349 (22-for-63) with runners in scoring position over that timeframe; their .319 average with RISP during August paces the AL, trailing only the Braves (.349) and Dodgers (.327) in all of MLB…Tampa Bay has collected 14+ hits in back-to-back games for the first time since 8/28-30, 2022.

The Rays are 26-8 (.765) over their last 34 meetings with the Halos dating back to 5/24/17, their best mark against any AL opponent in that span, ahead of Kansas City (25-12/.676)…their 18-6 (.750) mark at this venue since Kevin Cash took the helm in 2015 is tied with Miami’s LoanDepot Park (15-5/.750) for their best at any ballpark.

Angels first baseman C.J. Cron recorded a team- and career-high 30 homers with the Rays in 2018 after Tampa Bay acquired him from the Angels during 2018 Spring Training in exchange for a player to be named later…that player turned out to be Luis Rengifo, who is now in his fifth season with the Halos.
Rays first base coach Chris Prieto made the only two major league appearances of his 13-year playing career with the Angels in 2005.
