DETROIT TIGERS NOTES:

TIGERS-GUARDIANS SERIES OPENER RAINED OUT: The Tigers-Guardians game on Thursday night was postponed due to inclement weather. The game will be made up today as part of a straight doubleheader, starting at 4:10 p.m.

FULLY TORKED: Spencer Torkelson recorded his fourth multi-homer game of the season on Wednesday at Minnesota, hitting his 20th and 21st home runs of the season. Torkelson became the seventh Tigers player to hit 20-ormore homers in his age-23 season, joining Travis Fryman, Hank Greenberg, Willie Horton, Matt Nokes, Jason Thompson and Rudy York. Since June 27, he ranks third in the American League with 13 home runs, tied for fourth with 32 RBI and 10th with a .560 slugging percentage.

GREENE MEANS GO: Riley Greene posted his ninth three-hit game of the season on Wednesday, finishing a double shy of the cycle, and driving in four runs. Among American League hitters with at least 350 plate appearances this season, he ranks fourth with a .309 batting average and seventh with a .368 on-base percentage. Among all big leaguers age 23-or-younger, Greene is first in wRC+ (139) and sixth in fWAR (2.7).

KEEP CALM AND KERRY ON: Kerry Carpenter had a pair of hits, including a solo home run, his 16th of the season, on Wednesday against the Twins, extending his hitting streak to a career-best 12 games, which ranks as the longest active hitting streak in the American League. During his current streak, Carpenter is slashing .455/.500/.864 with three doubles, five home runs and seven RBI.

POWER SURGE: The Tigers hit four home runs in Wednesday’s game at Minnesota, marking their 11th straight game with at least one homer. It’s Detroit’s longest single-season streak since a 13- game stretch from April 4-18, 2017.

LET’S PLAY TWO: The Tigers today will play their sixth doubleheader of the season, which leads all Major League clubs. Detroit swept a twin bill from Cleveland on April 18, split two games with Baltimore on April 29 , won both contests against New York (NL) on May 3 and lost both games to Atlanta on June 14 and to Los Angeles

GUARDS END ROAD TRIP WITH LOSS AT CINCY
