Murphy became the sixth Brave this season to reach the 20-homer mark, joining Matt Olson (42), Ozzie Albies (28), Austin Riley (28), Ronald Acuña Jr. (26) and Marcell Ozuna (23). Atlanta is the only team in baseball with six such players this season, and the six tie a single-season franchise record for the most such players. The 1965 Milwaukee Braves first had six 20-homer players, before the 2003 club matched them. Eddie Rosario has 16 homers this season for Atlanta and is on pace for 22.

TONIGHT’S GAME: The Braves and Yankees tonight open a three-game series in what are the only scheduled meetings between the teams this season…The two are playing for the first time since the 2021 season.

  • Atlanta went 1-3 in four games between the teams in 2021, and the Braves have not won the season set with New York since 2001…In the seven seasons they have played since then, starting in 2006, Atlanta is 8-18 (.308) against New York and has gone 0-6-1 in season sets.
  • The Braves are just 16-26 (.381) all-time against New York since the advent of interleague play in 1997, their worst record against any A.L. team in that span (min. 15 games – Atlanta is 4-9, .308, against Houston since the Astros changed leagues)…The Braves and Yankees have met four times in the World Series, with Atlanta going 1-3 in these sets…The Milwaukee Braves won the title in 1957, before the Yankees won in 1958, 1996 and 1999.
  • Atlanta is 2-2 versus New York here at Truist Park, sweeping two games in 2020 before being swept in two in 2021…The Braves are just 4-14 (.222) all-time against the Yankees in the city of Atlanta, and have just one series win here all-time.
  • LH Max Fried is set to make his second career start against the Yankees, and earned the win with 6.0 innings of four-hit, one-run baseball in his first appearance, August 26, 2020…The 6-foot-4, 190-pound left-hander is set for his eighth start of the season for Atlanta, and has gone 3-1 with a 2.50 ERA (10 ER/36.0 IP) over his first seven turns.

LOSS: Atlanta rallied with three late-inning runs but fell short in Queens last night, losing to New York, 7-6…The loss capped off a 6-5 road trip for the Braves.

  • Atlanta is 38-22 (.633) on the road this season, the best record away from him in baseball…Just one other team, Baltimore at 37-22 (.627), has a winning percentage above .600 on the road.
  • Matt Olson and Sean Murphy each homered for the Braves last night, and Atlanta fell to 47-13 (.783) when hitting multiple homers this season… That is the best record in the National League, and behind just the Rays (39-10, .796) in the majors.
  • Olson’s homer extended his major league-high total to 43, and his major league-best RBI total to 107.
  • The loss snapped Atlanta’s eight-game winning streak in games inside the division, their first such defeat since June 11 vs. Washington…The Braves are 25-7 (.781) against the NL East this year

FRIED AT HOME: LH Max Fried is set to make just his third start of the season here at Truist Park, and his first since facing the Orioles on May 5…Fried was placed on the injured list following that start and missed 73 games with a strained left forearm, returning with a pair of starts on the Braves’ last road trip.

  • Fried is 28-12 with a 2.87 ERA (109 ER/342.1 IP) in 64 games and 58 starts here at Truist Park since the stadium opened in 2017, and no other pitcher has more starts, wins, innings pitched or strikeouts (321) in this building.
  • Since moving into the rotation full time in 2019, Fried’s 2.84 ERA at Truist Park is fifth best by a pitcher in his home park in baseball (min. 300 IP), behind just Chris Bassitt (2.60), Max Scherzer (2.69), Zac Gallen (2.75) and Logan Webb (2.76).

RUNS: Atlanta scored six runs in last night’s loss, the 59th time this season the Braves have scored at least six runs in a game…Atlanta has scored six-or-more runs in 50.4% of its games this season.

  • That is the most such games in baseball this year, three more than the Dodgers…The Rangers (52) and Rays (50) are the only other teams to score six-plus runs 50 times this season.
  • Last night’s loss was just the sixth of the season for Atlanta when scoring at least six runs, and the Braves are 53-6 (.898) in such games…That is the third-best winning percentage in baseball behind just the Rays (45-5, .900) and Marlins (27-3, .900).
  • The Braves’ 684 runs this season are the most in baseball, 12 more than the second-place Rangers (672)…Texas has played one more game than Atlanta this season.
  • Atlanta is on pace to score 947 runs this season, which would stand as a single-season franchise record for the modern era (since 1900)…The 2003 Braves hold the current mark with 907 runs…The 1894 Boston Beaneaters scored the most runs in a single season for the franchise, crossing the plate 1,220 times.

FIRST INNING: Three of Atlanta’s six runs scored in last night’s first inning, all on a bases-clearing double from Marcell Ozuna…The Braves’ 116 first-inning runs on the season are by far the most in the majors, 27 more than the second-place Dodgers (89).

  • Per MLB’s Sarah Langs, Atlanta’s 116 runs and 163 hits in the first inning are the most by any team in any inning this season…The Braves’ +70 run differential in the first is also the largest in an inning in baseball this year.
  • Atlanta is on pace to score 160 first-inning runs this season, which would tie the major-league, modern-era record for first-inning runs set by Boston in
1950…The National League record is 147 runs in the frame, set by the Cardinals in 2000, and the franchise record is 127 runs done in 1999.
  • The Braves are batting .333/.390/.612 with a 1.002 OPS in the first inning.
