Rangers activate C Jonah Heim off injured list, option C Sam Huff to Round Rock

Heim will be seeking first game action since he was injured on July 26 at Houston

San Francisco — The Texas Rangers announced prior to Sunday’s series finale in San Francisco that the club has activated catcher Jonah Heim off the 10-day Injured List and optioned catcher Sam Huff to Triple-A Round Rock.

Heim has batted .280 with 14 home runs and 70 RBI over 90 games/87 starts for Texas this season, making 80 starts at catcher and 7 as designated hitter.  Heim was injured while swinging during an at-bat in the fourth inning on July 26 at Houston.  He was on the 10-day Injured List from July 27-August 12 with a left wrist tendon strain.  Heim has had at-bats against live pitching prior to the team’s games on both Friday and Saturday at Oracle Park.

A first-time All-Star in 2023, Heim was the American League’s starting catcher for the Midsummer Classic on July 11 in Seattle.  His 70 RBI are T11th-most in the A.L., and tie for the most in a season by a Texas catcher since 2001.  Despite his stint on the Injured List, Heim still leads all MLB catchers in RBI (66) and 2B (23) while playing the position.

Huff has batted .237 with one home run and 3 RBI over 16 games spanning three stints with the Rangers this season: May 9-16, June 14-29, and July 22-August 12.

Following today’s transactions, the Rangers remain at the 40-man limit on the club’s Major League roster, along with three players (Jacob deGrom, Brett Martin, and Jake Odorizzi) on the 60-day Injured List.
