LHP Mason Albright and RHP Jake Madden traded to Rockies
ANAHEIM – The Angels today acquired INF C.J. Cron, OF Randal Grichuk, and cash considerations from the Colorado Rockies in exchange for minor league LHP Mason Albright and RHP Jake Madden. In corresponding 40-man roster moves, OF Taylor Ward has been transferred to the 60-day injured list and INF Kevin Padlo has been designated for assignment.
Cron, 33, is in his 10th Major League season and third with Colorado. In 56 games with the Rockies this season, he is batting .260 (54/208) with 12 doubles, 11 home runs and 32 RBI. Since June 26, he is batting .355 (19/59) with three doubles, five home runs and 11 RBI. Cron was a National League All-Star in 2022 and is one of 10 Major Leaguers with 25+ home runs in each of the last four full seasons (2018-22).
A native of Fullerton, CA, Cron was selected by the Angels in the first round (17th overall) of the 2011 Draft out of the University of Utah. He made his Major League debut with the Angels in 2014 and appeared in 408 games for the Halos from 2014-17, batting .262 (358/1366) with 68 doubles, five triples, 59 home runs and 213 RBI.
Grichuk, 31, has appeared in 64 games for the Rockies this season and is batting .308 (74/240), with 19 doubles, one triple, eight home runs and 27 RBI. Since the All-Star Break, he is hitting .385 (15/39) with a 1.118 OPS. In his 10 Major League seasons, Grichuk is a career .251 (948/3774) hitter, with 218 doubles, 25 triples, 183 home runs and 539 RBI across 1,088 games with the Cardinals, Blue Jays and Rockies. He was originally selected by the Angels in the first round (24th overall) of the 2009 Draft out of Lamar Consolidated HS (Rosenberg, TX).
Albright, 20, has gone 9-4 with a 3.62 ERA (79.2 IP – 32 ER) in 15 games (14 starts) this season for Low-A Inland Empire. In his three minor league seasons, he has combined to go 11-8 with a 5.36 ERA (142.2 IP – 85 ER).
Madden, 21, is playing his first professional season this year after being selected by the Angels in the fourth round of the 2022 Draft out of Northwest Florida State College. He owns a 2-6 record and a 5.46 ERA (64.1 IP – 39 ER) in 14 starts for Low-A Inland Empire this season.
