San Diego, Calif. — The Texas Rangers announced prior to Sunday’s game in San Diego that the club has placed right-handed pitcher Nathan Eovaldi on the 15-day Injured List, retroactive to July 27, with a right forearm strain.  To take his place on the active roster, the Rangers have recalled right-handed pitcher Grant Anderson from Triple-A Round Rock.

Eovaldi has gone 11-3 with a 2.69 ERA over 19 games/starts for the Rangers this season, posting a 1.011 WHIP figure with 34 walks against 111 strikeouts.  He ranks among American League leaders in wins (T1st, 11), WHIP (1st, 1.011), ERA (2nd, 2.69), and opponent batting average (3rd, .208).  He was selected to the American League roster for the 2023 All-Star Game, finishing first in the player vote.  The first date he would be eligible to return is August 10.

Anderson had a 1-1 record with a 5.20 ERA (16 ER/27.2 IP) over 19 relief appearances with Texas from May 29-July 21.  It was the first career MLB action for Anderson, who has combined to go 2-1 with a 3.52 ERA (12 ER/30.2 IP) over 17 games/one start with Frisco (AA) and Round Rock (AAA) this season, posting a 1.043 WHIP figure with 11 walks and 50 strikeouts.  He last pitched for Round Rock last night at El Paso (1.0 IP, 1 SO, 14 pitches).

Following today’s transactions, the Rangers remain at the 40-man limit on the club’s Major League roster, along with three players (Jacob deGrom, Brett Martin, and Jake Odorizzi) on the 60-day Injured List.
