DETROIT TIGERS NOTES:
TIGERS SWEPT IN THURSDAY TWIN BILL: The Tigers lost both games to the Angels on Thursday, dropping the first game, 6-0, and the second game, 11-4. Michael Lorenzen started the first game, allowing three runs on five hits with a walk and seven strikeouts in 5.0 innings. Kerry Carpenter had the only hit of the game. In the nightcap, Zach McKinstry went 2×4 with a double and a RBI, while Zack Short also had two hits. Matt Manning started and gave up seven runs on seven hits with one walk and five strikeouts in 5.0 innings.
ROSTER MOVES: The Tigers have announced the following roster moves:
*Following yesterday’s doubleheader, optioned LHP Zach Logue to Triple A Toledo
*RHP Trey Wingenter, who served as the 27th man for the second game of yesterday’s doubleheader, remains on the roster
MIGGY BACK IN MIAMI: Miguel Cabrera will play his final series against his original team this weekend. Cabrera played with the Marlins from 2003-07, hitting .313/.388/.542 with 183 doubles, 10 triples, 138 home runs and 523 RBI in 720 games. He was a member of the Marlins’ 2003 World Series team and was named to four National League All-Star Teams during his time with Miami.
MORE ON MIGGY: Miguel Cabrera went 1×4 in the second game of yesterday’s doubleheader against the Angels, recording the 3,134th hit of his Major League career. The single was also the 5,309th total base of his career, tying Adrián Beltré for 14th in MLB history. He’s now seven hits shy of tying Tony Gwynn for 20th in big league history. Since May 30, Cabrera is hitting .323/.396/.427 with seven doubles, a home run and 10 RBI. Among American League hitters with at least 100 plate appearances in that span, he ranks 10th in on-base percentage.
ON THE ROAD: The Tigers tonight begin a five-game road trip, which includes three games at Miami (July 28-30) and two games at Pittsburgh (August 1-2). Detroit is 24-27 on the road this season and is 12-6 in its last 18 games away from Comerica Park. The Tigers are hitting .220/.288/.360 on the road this season, while the pitching staff has a 4.23 ERA (442.2IP/208ER).
TIGERS AND MARLINS: The Tigers and Marlins begin their only series of the season tonight. The two teams last played in 2019 with Miami sweeping a three-game series at Comerica Park. The Marlins hold an 11-8 advantage in the alltime series, including a 3-2 edge at loanDepot Park.
INTERLEAGUE ACTION: The Tigers continue their interleague schedule tonight against the Marlins. Detroit is 16-16 against National League foes this season, including a 5-7 record against NL East teams. The Tigers have finished with a winning record against NL opponents in each of the last two seasons.

The Marlins tonight begin a 7-game homestand with the first of three games vs. Detroit. The ‘stand continues on Monday with a four-game series against the Phillies. Are coming off a brief two-game road-trip split at Tampa Bay.
NEW FISH ON THE POND
The Marlins this week acquired two former All-Star relievers, RHP Jorge López and RHP David Robertson.
- On Wednesday, July 26, Miami acquired 2022 AL All-Star reliever Jorge López from Minnesota in exchange for RHP Dylan Floro. Born in Caguas, Puerto Rico, López pitched for Team Puerto Rico in the 2023 World Baseball Classic at loanDepot park and made 3 scoreless relief appearances. López, 30, posted a 1.62 ERA and 17 saves during his All-Star 2022 season, holding opponents to a .167 avg. and .517 OPS over 40 games w/ Baltimore before being acquired by Minnesota on Aug. 2. Made 37 apps w/ Minnesota in 2023, recording 24 scoreless outings and 6 holds, holding LH batters to a .178 avg.
- Early Friday morning, July 28, the Marlins announced they acquired 2009 World Series champion and 2011 AL All-Star reliever David Roberston from the New York Mets in exchange for Minor League prospects C Ronald Hernández and INF Marco Vargas. Robertson, 38, has gone 4-2 with a 2.05 ERA (44.0 IP/10 ER) in 40 relief appearances with the Mets this season, recording 14 saves in 17 opportunities. He has held opponents to a .199 average and boasts a 1.00 WHIP. Across 771 career games (one start) in the Majors, he has a 61-38 record and a 2.84 ERA, with 171 saves. He has struck out 1025 batters compared to just 318 walks and owns 40 MLB Postseason appearances

Originally signed by the Marlins at the age of 16 on July 2, 1999, out of Maracay, Venezuela, as an International free agent, Miggy played in 5 Major League seasons with the Marlins, batting .313 (842×2694) with 449 runs, 138 home runs, and 523 RBI.
- Was a 4-time All-Star with the Marlins, the most selections to the Midsummer Classic by any player in franchise history.
- Hit a walk-off HR for his first career hit in his first MLB game on June 20, 2003 – a 2-run shot in the 11th inn. off TB’s Al Levine.

Miami returned to the win column with a 7-1 victory at Tampa Bay. RHP Sandy Alcantara hurled a complete game for the win, holding the Rays to just 1 run on 5 hits with 1 walk and 7 strikeouts. Needed just 97 pitches to complete the feat. Five Marlins collected multi-hit games (Arraez, Hampson, Gurriel, Berti and Stallings). LF Bryan De La Cruz (1×5) hit his 13th homer of the season. 3B Jon Berti (2×3) scored 3 runs.
- Wednesday’s win at Tropicana Field snapped the Marlins’ 10-game road losing streak, 8-game losing streak against the Rays, and 7-game skid in St. Petersburg.

RHP Sandy Alcantara on Wednesday at Tampa Bay hurled his 11th career complete game – almost twice as many as any other pitcher since 2019 (Adam Wainwright-6). Was his 2nd complete game win of the season (also Apr. 4 v. MIN), joining TEX’s Nathan Eovaldi as the only two pitchers to throw multiple complete game wins in 2023.
- In addition to the charts to the right, Wednesday’s win tied Alcantara with Jose Fernandez (38) for the 9th most in franchise history. His 131 starts are tied with A.J.
