NEW YORK YANKEES NOTES:

AT A GLANCE: The Yankees finish their six-game road trip today with the final game of a three-game set at Los Angeles-AL (0-2 thus far)…are 1-4 on the road trip after dropping two-of-three games at Colorado this past weekend and dropping their first two games at Los Angeles-AL…after an off day on Thursday, will return home for a five-game, six-day homestand vs. Kansas City (Fri.-Sun.) and New York-NL (7/25-26).

Have lost eight of their last 10 games (since 7/5) after winning seven of their previous 10 games (6/24-7/4).

YESTERDAY’S NEWS: The Yankees fell to the Angels, 5-1, on Tuesday at Angel Stadium…Yankees batters were held to just 2H, matching their season low (also 2H on 7/7 vs. Chicago-NL)…RHP Domingo Germán (6.0IP, 4H, 5ER, 3BB, 9K, 1HR, 1HP, 1WP) started and took his sixth loss of the season…2B Gleyber Torres (1-for-3, 1R, 1HR, 1RBI,
1BB) drove in the club’s only run with a solo HR in the third inning…SS Anthony Volpe (1-for-3) was the only other Yankee to collect a hit…CF Harrison Bader (0-for-2, 1BB) and LF Isiah Kiner-Falefa (0-for-2, 1BB) both walked… RHP Albert Abreu (2.0IP, 1H, 4K) tossed 2.0 scoreless innings of relief.

PUT THE BROOMS AWAY: The Yankees will look to avoid being swept by the Angels today…have been swept just once this season (3G from 6/16-18 at Boston)…entering today, are one of just six teams who have not been swept multiple times this year, joining Baltimore (have not been swept but are 0-2 in their current series), Houston (once), Los Angeles-NL (once), Tampa Bay (once but are 0-2 in their current series) and Texas (once)…have not been swept by the Angels since going 0-3 from 7/10-12/09 at Angel Stadium.

HAWAIIAN PUNCH: INF/OF Isiah Kiner-Falefa has reached base in 14 of his last 18 games, batting .308/.406/.462 (16-for-52) with 10R, 2 doubles, 2HR, 9RBI, 10BB, 1SB and 2SF in that span (since 6/22).

LEMACHINE: INF DJ LeMahieu had his seven-game hitting streak snapped on Tuesday…had batted .385 (10- for-26) with 2R, 3 doubles and 1BB over that span (7/6-17).

Has still reached base in nine of his last 10 games (since 7/4) and 16 of his last 19 games (since 6/23).

WHERE’S WALDO: INF/OF Oswaldo Cabrera is batting .421/.542/.526 (8-for-19) with 6R, 2 doubles, 4RBI, 4BB, 1HP and 1SB in his last 12 games (since 6/28).

DARTH BADER: OF Harrison Bader has reached base safely in nine of his last 11 games (since 7/3), 11 of his last 15 games (since 6/28) and 13 of his last 18 games (since 6/24).

FOR STARTERS: Yankees starting pitchers have allowed 2ER-or-fewer in five of their last eight starts (since 7/7), posting a 3.59 ERA (47.2IP, 19ER) in that span… Have allowed just 1ER in three of their last six starts…have tossed at least 6.0IP in six of their last seven starts.

PEN PALS: Yankees relievers have posted a Major League-best 3.25 ERA (360.1IP, 130ER) and .220 opponents’ BA this season…also own a Major League-best 0.82 HR/9.0IP.

BRONX BOMBERS: Yankees batters were held to a season-low-tying 2H on Tuesday at Los Angeles-AL (also 2H on 7/7 vs. Chicago-NL) after recording at least eight hits in each of their previous six games (7/8-17)…was their second-longest such streak of the season, trailing only their eight-game streak from 5/2-10.

GLEYBER DAY: INF Gleyber Torres drove in the Yankees’ only run on Tuesday with a solo HR in the third inning, extending his hitting streak to nine games (since 7/6)…is batting .421/.439/.553 (16-for-38) with 8R, 1 triple, 1HR, 3RBI, 2BB, 1SF and 1SB over that span…marks his second-longest hitting streak of the season, trailing only a 12- game streak from 5/20-6/2.

Has reached base multiple times in a career-high-tying seven straight games (also 7G from 8/9- 17/20), batting .467/.485/.633 (14-for-30) with 8R, 1 triple, 1HR, 3RBI, 2BB, 1SF and 1SB over that span… marks the longest such streak by a Yankee this season and the longest since Aaron Judge’s eight-game streak from 9/13-22/22…if he were to reach base multiple times today, it would match the longest streak by a Yankee in the last four seasons (since 2020)…would join Aaron Judge (8G from 7/16-26/22, 9/3-10/22 and 9/13-22/22) and DJ LeMahieu (8G from 7/10-21(G1)/22).

WELCOME TO THE BRONX: Made his Yankees debut on 7/7 vs. Chicago-NL at Yankee Stadium, recording the loss despite allowing 2ER in 5.1IP (4H, 2BB, 2K, 1HR, 1WP)… surrendered a solo HR to Cody Bellinger in the third inning and an RBI single to Nico Hoerner in the fifth.

ON THE MEND: Made three combined rehab starts with Double-A Somerset and High-A Hudson Valley, going 0-1 with a 0.84 ERA (10.2IP, 1ER) and 17K…commenced a rehab assignment with Somerset on 6/20 before being transferred to High-A Hudson Valley on 7/1.

In two starts with Somerset, went 0-1 with a 1.29 ERA (7.0IP, 1ER) and 9K…made his first rehab start on 6/20 vs. New Hampshire, allowing 1ER over 3.0IP (L, 1H, 1BB, 5K)… tossed 4.0 scoreless innings in his second start on 6/25 vs. New Hampshire (ND, 1H, 0BB, 4K).

In one rehab start with High-A Hudson on 7/1 vs. Wilmington, struck out eight batters over 3.2 scoreless innings (1H, 2BB, 1WP).

LOS ANGELES ANGELS NOTES:

LEADING OFF: Today, the Angels play the sixth (3-2) of nine games on a homestand to begin the second half of the season against the Houston Astros (1-2), New York Yankees (2-0; July 17-19) and Pittsburgh Pirates (July 21- 23)…Angels went 0-5 on last road trip before the break against the Padres (0-3) and Dodgers (0-2)… Halos went 3-4 on last homestand against the White Sox (2-2) and Diamondbacks (1-2).

TODAY’S TRANSACTIONS: Today the Angels recalled RHP Chase Silseth from Triple-A Salt Lake to make the start on the mound…In a corresponding move, RHP Jimmy Herget was optioned to Triple-A Salt Lake following last night’s game.

VS. NEW YORK (A.L.): Angels seek first three-game sweep of Yankees since July 10-12, 2009 at Angel Stadium…Halos lead the 2023 season series vs. NYY 3-2 after Yankees took two of three games in the Bronx from April 18-20 and Angels won first two games of current series at The Big A.

ON THE AIR: In addition to the local broadcast on Bally Sports West, tonight’s game is featured nationally as an MLB Network Showcase Game with Matt Vasgersian, Dan Plesac, and JP Morosi on the call.

ON REHAB: Last night, José Suarez made his first rehab appearance with ACL Angels (1.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 SO) in a start in Tempe vs. ACL Guardians…Suarez has been on the IL since May 8 with a left shoulder strain.

HOME RUN STREAK: Angels enter tonight’s game with an active streak of 17 consecutive games hitting at least one home run…The streak is the second-longest in franchise history…The only longer streak was 18 straight games from July 26 – Aug. 13, 1982.

LEAGUE LEADER: As a hitter, Shohei Ohtani leads the Majors in triples (7), home runs (35), total bases (246), XBH (58), slugging percentage (.680) and OPS (1.072)…On the mound, he also leads the Majors in opponent batting average (.192) and is tied for fourth in strikeouts (139).

THE MICK: Mickey Moniak is currently on a careerhigh 10-game hit streak and is batting .415 (17/41) during that span (since July 2).

MONDAY MAGIC: The Angels earned their fourth walkoff win of the season Monday night on an RBI single by Michael Stefanic in the 10th inning.

LATE COMEBACKS: Halos have four wins this season when trailing after eight innings, which is the highest total for the Club since 2017, when the Angels had five wins when trailing after eight frames.

THE INJURED LIST: Angels currently have 16 players on the injured list and have used the IL a total of 25 times this year for 23 different players…The 16 players
currently on the IL are the most in the Majors.

.500 AGAIN: With a 48-48 record, the Angels are back at exactly .500 for a 13th time this season (previously 1-1, 5-5, 7-7, 8-8, 9-9, 10-10, 11-11, 12-12, 14-14, 22- 22, 30-30 & 45-45).

ESTÉVEZ ENDING: Carlos Estévez is pitching to a 2.13 ERA (38 IP – 9 ER) and has converted all 21 of his save opportunities this year…He set the franchise record for consecutive save chances converted to begin a season (previously Lee Smith converted his first 19 chances in 1995)…The only player in Angels history with a longer save streak without a blown save at any point in a season is Francisco Rodriguez (25 game streak in 2008 and a 22 game streak spanning 2005-06).

FIRST HALF HR KING: Shohei Ohtani was the Major League home run leader at the All-Star Break for the second time in his career (also, 2021)…According to ELIAS, he is the fourth player since 2000 to lead MLB in homers at the Break in multiple seasons, joining Barry Bonds, José Bautista and Aaron Judge.

PLAYER OF THE MONTH: Shohei Ohtani earned American League Player of the Month honors for June…It marks his third career monthly honors after previously winning in June and July 2021…For the month, he batted .394 (41/104) with seven doubles, three triples, 15 home runs, 29 RBI, a .492 OBP, .952 SLG and a 1.444 OPS…He set a franchise record for HR in any month and tied the A.L. record for homers in June, joining Babe Ruth (1930 Yankees), Bob Johnson (1934 A’s) and Roger Maris (1961 Yankees).

2024 SCHEDULE RELEASE: Major League Baseball announced the 2024 regular season schedule on Thursday morning…The Angels will begin the season on Thursday, March 28, 2024 at Baltimore in the earliest Opening Day in franchise history…It will also be the Halos first time starting the year against the Orioles since the inaugural 1961 season at Memorial Stadium.

PIRATES ON DECK: Following the current series against the Yankees and an off day tomorrow, the Angels will conclude the homestand with a three game series against the Pittsburgh Pirates (July 21-23)…The series marks the first meetings between the clubs since Aug. 12-14, 2019 when Pittsburgh won two of three games at The Big A…The all-time series is tied 9-9.
