Padres lose 1st series of the 2nd half to the Phillies, drop 3 of 4 games
- The Friars fell 7-6 in 12 innings on Sunday afternoon to the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park, their 1st series against them since losing to them in the 2020 National League Championship Series.
- Seth Lugo allowed 5 earned runs in 5.1 innings, fanning 5 Phillies without allowing a walk…Josh Hader was charged with a blown save (4th) and Tim Hill shouldered the loss.
- Ha-Seong Kim hit a leadoff home run, and Xander Bogaerts added a solo HR in the 4th…Kim, Trent Grisham, and Matt Carpenter doubled, but on the day, San Diego batters went just 2-for-16 with runners in scoring position
Padres make a multitude of roster moves
- Today, the Padres made the following moves:
- C Luis Campusano returned from rehab & reinstated from the 60-Day IL, OF Taylor Kohlwey was selected to the Major League roster (will wear No. 38 and his 1st Appearance will be his big league debut). INF Alfonso Rivas was recalled from Triple-A El Paso, INF Rougned Odor was designated for assignment, C Austin Nola and INF/OF Brandon Dixon were optioned to Triple-A El Paso, and RHP Reiss Knehr was transferred to the 60-Day IL.
Friars return to Toronto
- The Padres will match up against the Blue Jays for the 1st time since 2019, and they are 7-8 all-time vs. Toronto, with the teams separated by just 3 runs in 15 meetings (Padres have scored 71 to the Blue Jays’ 68)…in their 2nd-to-last game against the Blue Jays on May 25, 2019 in Canada, the Padres scored 19 runs and established a franchise record in home runs hit in a games with 7 (1 from Eric Hosmer, 2 from Hunter Renfroe, 2 from Wil Myers, 1 from Ian Kinsler, and 1 from Austin Hedges).

Manny Machado leads Majors in OPS and SLG so far this month
- Manny Machado currently has a 1.306 OPS in July, which so far is the highest of any player in baseball this month and the highest in Padres’ club history in any calendar month, min. 50 PA (highest was Ryan Klesko’s 1.293 in June of 2000)…his .870 SLG also leads the Majors since July 1st, stands as the highest all-time by a Padre in a single month (min. 50 PA).

Joe Musgrove takes the mound for his 2nd career start vs. TOR, with his lone career start vs. the Blue Jays coming in the 2nd start of his career on Aug 12, 2016 as a member of the Houston Astros, earning his first career winning decision after tossing 7.0 innings of 6-hit, 2-run ball in the Astros’ 5-3 victory.
Musgrove posts 6th consecutive quality outing vs. NYM
Joe Musgrove made his final start of the first half last Sunday vs. the Mets and posted his 6th consecutive quality start, the 2nd-longest quality outing of his career behind only his 12 consecutive quality outings to begin the 2022 season…after being tagged with the loss in all 5 of his career starts vs. the Mets from July 29, 2018-July 24, 2022, he’s won back-to-back starts vs. NYM, including the decisive Game 3 of the 2022 NL Wild Card Series.
