DETROIT TIGERS NOTES:
TIGERS DROP RUBBER GAME TO BLUE JAYS: The Tigers lost to the Blue Jays, 4-3, in 10 innings on Sunday. Riley Greene had a pair of hits, including a solo home run, while Spencer Torkelson was 2×5 with a double and a RBI. Andy Ibáñez added a pair of doubles and Javier Báez went 2×4. Tarik Skubal started and threw 4.0 scoreless innings, allowing two hit with two walks and five strikeouts. Tyler Holton and Chasen Shreve each pitched a scoreless inning out of the bullpen.
ROSTER MOVES: The Tigers have announced the following roster moves:
- Following Sunday’s game, reinstated RHP Trey Wingenter from the 60-day injured list and optioned him to Triple A Toledo
- To make room for Wingenter on the 40-man roster, designated OF Jake Marisnick for assignment
- Prior to tonight’s game, recalled INF Nick Maton from Triple A Toledo
BE LIKE MIKE: Michael Lorenzen made his first career appearance in the All-Star Game on Tuesday, pitching in the seventh inning and throwing a scoreless two-thirds of an inning, allowing a hit with one walk and a strikeout. He struck out Pete Alonso to escape a jam with runners on first and second. Lorenzen was the first Tigers starting pitcher to be named to the AL All-Star Team since Michael Fulmer in 2017.
MIGGY MAGIC: Miguel Cabrera went 1×4 in Sunday’s series finale against the Blue Jays. The hit was the 3,128th of his big league career, putting him 13 shy of tying Tony Gwynn for 20th in big league history. Cabrera has hit safely in 17 of his last 24 games, slashing .338/.414/.473 with seven doubles, a home run and nine RBI.
GREENE MACHINE: Riley Greene had a pair of hits, including a solo home run, in Sunday’s game vs. Toronto. In two game since returning from the injured list, Greene has gone 4×7. Dating back to April 26, Greene has hit safely in 27 of his last 32 games, over which he is batting .363/.436/.548 with nine doubles, a triple, four
home runs and 13 RBI.
TIGERS AGREE TO TERMS WITH FOUR SELECTIONS FROM MLB DRAFT: The Tigers announced that they have agreed to terms with four of their picks from the 2023 MLB Draft. The list of signed players includes: 2B Max Anderson (second round), RHP Jaden Hamm (fifth round), C Bennett Lee (sixth round) and RHP Hayden Minton (ninth round).
TIGERS AND MARINERS: The Tigers and Mariners begin their second series of the season tonight. The two teams met earlier this season at Comerica Park with Seattle winning two-of-three games. The Tigers went 1-6 against the Mariners last season, including dropping three-or-four games in Seattle.
ON THE ROAD: The Tigers tonight begin a seven-game road trip, which includes three games at Seattle (July 14-16) and four games at Kansas City (July 17-20). Detroit is 19-25 on the road this season. The Tigers are hitting .221/.289/.360 as a team away from Comerica Park, while the pitching staff has a 4.43 ERA (381.2IP/188ER).
