MLS Preview: CF Montréal Impact (8-11-2) at Chicago Fire (6-7-8)

The CF Montreal Impact have won each of its last four matches against the Chicago Fire, winning home and away matches in both the 2021 and 2022 seasons. The wins in Chicago in each of the last two seasons came after CF Montreal had won just one of its first nine away matches against the Chicago Fire (D3 L5).

The Chicago Fire has won three of its last four MLS matches (L1), including a victory over Nashville SC on Saturday, after winning just three of its first 17 matches this season (D8 L6). All six Chicago Fire wins this season have been be a one-goal margin as they’re the only team without a win by multiple goals this season.

The CF Montreal Impact has won only one of its last 11 MLS away matches (D2 L8) this season but did manage a scoreless draw at Charlotte FC on June 24 in its last road match. CF Montreal Impact’s five away points this season are better than only Inter Miami FC and Toronto FC (4 each) after earning a league-best 35 point on the road last year.

Kei Kamara has scored 13 career MLS goals against the CF Montreal Impact (including playoffs), tied for his most against any opponent (Chicago Fire). The only player with more goals against a single opponent in the expansion era (since 2005) is Chris Wondolowski against the Vancouver Whitecaps FC (14).

CF Montreal Impact has scored in only three of its 11 away matches this season (4 total goals), the seventh team in MLS history to be shut out in eight or more of its first 11 road matches of a season and the first since the Columbus Crew SC in 2018 (also 8).
