MLS Preview: FC Cincinnati (13-2-5) at Charlotte FC (6-8-7)

Both Charlotte FFC and FC Cincinnati recorded 2-0 wins against the other last season, with Charlotte FC winning at home in March and FC Cincinnati at home in September. Karol Swiderski scored both of Charlotte FC’s goals in the March meeting while Luciano Acosta scored one and assisted one in FC Cincinnati’s win.

Charlotte FC has played four consecutive draws following a 1-1 result at New Your City FC on Wednesday. Charlotte FC had drawn only six of its first 57 all-times matches in all competitions prior to this run of four in a row. Charlotte FC’s four-match unbeaten run equals its longest in club history.

FC Cincinnati is winless in consecutive matches for the first time all season (D1 L1). Even with one point from its last two matches, FC Cincinnati’s 44 points are the fourth-most though 20 games of a season in MLS history and just two off the most at this stage: 46 by the Los Angeles Galaxy in 1998 and Los Angeles Football Club in 2019.

McKinze Gaines scored Charlotte FC’s lone goal Wednesday from outside the box, the fourth goal Charlotte FC has scored from outside the box this season, with four different players scoring the goals. In fact, dating back to April 2022, Charlotte FC’s last eight outside-the-box goals have been scored by eight different players.

Luciano Acosta assisted on both of FC Cincinnati’s goals against New England Revolution on Saturday, the 11th time he’s had multiple assist in a match in his MLS career. Only five players have had more multi-assist games in MLS over the last 20 years.
