NWSL Preview: Chicago Red Stars (4-9-1) at Houston Dash (4-4-6)

Shell Energy Stadium | Houston, Texas – Friday, July 7 at 8:30 PM ET

Players to watch:

Six of Houston forward Ebony Salmon’s 16 career NWSL goals have come against the Red Stars. Of the 61 players with at least 15 goals in all NWSL competitions, no one has scored a higher percentage of their goals against a single team than Salmon against Chicago at 37.5 percent.

After her one-goal, one-shot performance in Chicago’s win against the Wave, Red Stars forward Ella Stevensnow has four goals on her eight shots this season. She is the only NWSL player with more than two goals while also having attempted fewer than 10 shots in league play this season.

Match facts: The Houston Dash host the Chicago Red Stars at Shell Energy Stadium in the final game of Friday’s action, with the Dash aiming for a first win in four, while Chicago is seeking back-to-back victories for the second time this season. Houston is currently in 7th place with 18 points from 14 games while Chicago is bottom of the table in 12th place with 13 points from 14 games.

Houston has failed to score in four straight matches in all competitions following a 1-0 loss to North Carolina last weekend. The Dash had not been shut out in four straight games since March to April 2018 and have not been held scoreless in a five-game span since a six-game drought from May to July 2016.

Chicago is coming off a 1-0 victory over San Diego as the club now looks to win consecutive matches for the first time in all competitions since a five-game streak ended in the 2021 NWSL Championship game. Though the Red Stars won back-to-back league games at the end of May and early June, those matches were split by a 2-0 loss to Racing Louisville in the NWSL Challenge Cup. Every NWSL team other than Chicago has had at least two winning streaks over the last two seasons.

The Dash have won four straight matches in all competitions against Chicago, most recently with a Challenge Cup win at home in May. The four wins in the last four matches equal Houston’s win total in the fixture over their first 24 meetings (W4 D8 L12).
